About the Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures
A new and exciting institution being built at Cornell University, the Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures (RJEF), is Cornell's hub for research and engagement that builds towards a more just world. RJEF is a university wide center focused on three core pillars: faculty, students, and community. Through supporting research, facilitating engagement, strengthening communities of learning, and advancing specific initiatives around issues of urgent importance, RJEF will leverage the knowledge and capacities of Cornell faculty, students, and institutions to positively impact the world.
The Opportunity
The Administrative Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the operational and administrative functions of the RJEF. Reporting directly to the RJEF Director, the Administrative Assistant will work independently while collaborating with various stakeholders across multiple colleges, units, and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support: Handle contacts on behalf of RJEF leadership and respond to inquiries. Create, maintain, and oversee complex administrative and academic records. Oversee and audit reconciliation of monthly procurement card statements, accounts, and student awards. Ensure transactions and payments follow applicable policies.
- Event Coordination: Arrange and coordinate special events, including conferences, seminars, lectures, campus visitors, and special meetings.
- Communication and Outreach: Maintain RJEF websites, social media pages, and online events calendars. Assist with newsletters and other public communications.
- Supervision: Supervise student employees and approve time as needed.
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
What We Need
We are looking for a team member who is passionate about racial justice, culturally competent, and customer service-oriented. Additionally, you will:
- Hold an Associate's degree and have at least 2 years of proven administrative experience which includes finance experience, or equivalent combination.
- Demonstrate a commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Have the aptitude to thoughtfully balance conflicting priorities.
- Be knowledgeable about a wide range of computer programs including Word and Excel.
- Have experience in database management.
