Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Retail Credit Risk and Control Oversight Manager, Group WPB Credit Risk.
Principal Responsibilities
Role purpose (overall high-level summary of the role)
Context:
Provide visible, strong and clear leadership in implementing the Risk Management Enhancement Framework initiatives to strengthen the Retail Credit Risk management control environment
Dispatch the Group Risk Stewardship responsibilities for Retail Credit Risk/Controls and credit practices across HSBC Group's retail banking operations
Drive increased RCR Risk Steward engagement in Region/Market, to demonstrate proactive oversight, review and challenge of the RCR processing control environment and Financial Risk Entity Level Control, including establishing regular touchpoints with Region/Market Risk Stewards
Provide SME guidance and support for Risk and Control Trigger Event reviews and ensure alignment to the refreshed Risk Taxonomy Control Library for RCR processing Risks
HSBC Group control framework including both Entity Level Controls and Non-Financial Risk Controls are critical to ensuring the Bank systemically and methodically mitigates Inherent Risk in the provision of Retail Lending Products
The Bank's Global Principles, Risk Management and Non-Financial Risk and Control Frameworks follow 5 key steps to ensure we grow our business safely, deliver fair outcomes for customers, and maintain orderly and transparent operation of financial markets. The role involves supporting Stewardship of these 5 steps - i)Define and Enable, ii)Identify & Assess, iii)Manage, iv) Aggregate & Report and v)Govern for Retail Credit Risk Processes and Financial Risk (Retail Credit Risk) ELC
Specifics of the Role Holder:
Demonstrates strong knowledge of the people, processes and systems involved in the management of Retail Credit Risk activities through the credit lifecycle
Prior experience working in a Credit Risk Management role or equivalent Risk and Control role within a Business
Critical problem solving skills, able to balance structured solutions versus pragmatism as appropriate to business needs
Strong prioritization skills and be able to perform multitask under pressure, to meet challenging deadlines, whilst retaining a keen eye for detail
Ability to clearly articulate the Bank's Global Principles, Risk Management and Non-Financial Risk Frameworks and be able to demonstrate how these are embed in the management of Retail Credit Risk
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to negotiate and work effectively with senior business leaders across geographies and functions
Implements significant strategic interventions at pace to significantly improve processing risk mitigation of portfolios
Evaluate and critically challenge regional and country credit risk management decisions and practices within the control environment
Drive standardisation in approach, methodology and assessment across markets, by providing training and support to be able to make considered decisions that protect and enhance HSBC values, reputation and business
Requirements
Functional Knowledge
Established expertise in managing retail portfolios with preferential experience in managing credit risk, Underwriting and/or collections operations
Broad knowledge of operational risk, credit risk and regulatory environment
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
