We're seeking a future team member for the role of Practice Owner, First Line of Defense Controls (1LoDC) to join our Team. The Practice Owner for will be the functional leader of the 1LoDC Practice members, responsible for overall E2E Practice Excellence ensuring that the Practice has all the tools and expertise necessary to share with the Practitioners.The 1LoD is composed of business owners who manage and implement actions to treat risk and controls, comply with risk management processes,execute risk assessments, and identify emerging risks.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Sets Vision and Strategy for the craft development of 1 st Line of Defense Controls Practice.
Develops Practice standards/guardrails and policies to be followed by all Practice members across the organization.
Establishes an effective risk culture based on a robust & transparent control environment, strong governance structures & effective escalation protocols, implemented in partnership with 2 nd and 3 rd Lines of Defense.
Executes on the risk appetite and risk culture for the platform in conjunction with the Executive Platforms Owners (EPO's), covering all relevant risk types including fiduciary, legal, credit, market, cyber & technology risk, and operational risk.
Executes the risk management framework for the Platforms in partnership with 2 LoD including formal governance structures, escalation protocols, policy documents & risk training for all staff in the Platform.
Defines and tracks Practice OKRs in line with Enterprise-wide standards and goals to monitor Practice performance and adherence.
Set and drives best practice standards for overall Practice and manages adherence through Practice Leads and set of measurable standards.
Definescareer paths, job architecture, and approach to professional development with supportfrom the People team.
Drive continuous improvements in control environment through rolling out best in class tools, workflow, and risk analytics in partnership with Practice lead.
Partners with Executive Platform Owners on people-related activity such as performance management and compensation decision for employees.
Embrace innovation and apply strategic thinking in order to continually improve and evolve the Practice.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
Minimum of 15 years' experience in front line controls.
Proven ability to lead effectively in a highly matrixed, collaborative environment.
Strong knowledge of and/or aptitude for operating effectively in a platform-based and agile operating model.
Deep industry/business/product knowledge and expertise on risk and control functions (incl. best practice).
Experience interpreting and applying Risk & Compliance policies and procedures.
Experience with planning, syndicating and implementing balanced risk and control strategies.
Exhibits and growth mind-set and experience in leading transformational change.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Strong communication skills to teach and deliver complex information or messages in a professional and effective manner.
Bachelor's degree in business or a related discipline. MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $136,500 and $400,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
