Newton provides discretionary and non-discretionary investment advice to institutional clients, including US and global pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, registered mutual funds, other pooled investment vehicles and other institutions, and, via BNY Mellon, to individuals. Job Purpose The successful candidate will join Newton as a manager within the Business Risk and Control Management team (BRCM). The team sits in the Risk and Compliance business area, reporting into the Global Head of Business Risk and Control Management. The BRCM function promotes, supports, and ensures the Business/Function Management owns its risks and controls as the first line of defense, ensuring that all key risks within their activities and operations are identified, mitigated, and monitored by an appropriate control environment that is commensurate with risk appetite. The manager of BRCM will take a leading role in the execution of an effective operational risk framework and internal control management program. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day work responsibilities for a sub-section of the Business Risk and Control Management function (as detailed in the following bullets):
Audit Control: Co-ordinate and administer internal and external audit requirements across all Newton business areas. Including:
Arrange for the submission of documentation as necessary, maintaining comprehensive records of documentation provided.
Act as primary point of contact throughout audit period, facilitating liaison and interviews with the appropriate business staff as necessary, and maintaining comprehensive records of information provided. Track and provide feedback to management regarding progression of audit and any emerging issues. Provide updates to interested committees and oversight groups.
Draft management responses to Findings and Actions after obtaining input from relevant business heads, co-ordinate the finalisation of reports and circulation to all relevant parties. Propose solutions to items raised and track action points to completion. Prepare management sign off documentation where necessary.
Internal Capital and Risk Assessment Process (ICARA): Contribute towards the completion of Newton's annual ICARA process. Including:
Preparation and co-ordination for all ICARA deliverables by key deadlines, including risk assessments, stress testing and orderly wind-down planning.
Co-chairing / chairing the ICARA Working Group and provide feedback to interested management and committees.
Creation and ongoing maintenance of all Newton MiFIDPRU documentation, including the ICARA and MiFIDPRU8 Disclosure.
Operational Risk Framework: Contribute towards the team's effort to promote and support the first line of defence in identifying, mitigating, and monitoring an appropriate control environment. Including:
Oversight and assistance with the resolution and documentation of operational risk events, ensuring internal policy and procedural requirements are being met.
Analysis of operational risk events and risk metrics to help identify business processes or business areas where risk has breached appetite or thresholds as set by Senior Management.
Oversight of key risk indicator metrics and commentary in the Risk Management Platform on a monthly / quarterly basis, as applicable.
Oversight of the Newton Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and associated processes, such as control testing and the monitoring of control gaps and action plans.
Procedure Control. Provide oversight of the document inventory held on the Newton Policies and Procedures SharePoint site. Support all Newton business areas to ensure that documents are presented in the Newton standard format and reviewed in accordance with the BNY Mellon Policy on Governance of Policy and Procedures.Provide MI to the Newton Risk Committees.
The Manager -Business Risk and Control Management is also required to:
Collaboration with other team/department members to support a continuous process improvement approach, and to contribute to key business strategic projects and initiatives. Maintenance of effective team checklists and procedure documents.
Provide line management to team personnel as assigned including completion of the annual BNY Mellon performance appraisal process for any direct reports.
Represent the Business Risk and Control Management function in meetings (internal and external) when required and demonstrate effective relationships with other Newton and BNY Mellon areas.
Ensure all Management Information and Compliance reporting (and adhoc reporting to any other business area) for the function is completed e.g., monthly management sign-off packs, team statistics and trend analysis. Provide input into audit and control processes (internal and external auditors of Newton) on behalf of the team.
Provide support to and/or deputise for the Global Head of Business Risk and Control Management as required, maintain a good working knowledge of all team responsibilities in order to provide support and cover to each team function, and input to key business strategic projects and initiatives.
