What We Do The Rates Systematic Market Making (SMM) Trading Desk sits within the Interest Rate Products (IRP) business within the Global Banking & Markets Division. The Interest Rate Products business specializes in rates-sensitive instruments including government debt, interest rate swaps, volatility and structured products. The Rates SMM trading desk specializes in highly automated trading within the rates business. Where trading has traditionally been negotiated by high-touch verbal interactions, the financial services industry has undergone a rapid transition towards faster-paced, computerized trading. This style of trading is driven by the quant developers and traders who build, manage, and optimize these trading systems. Who We Look For Goldman Sachs Strategists sit at the cutting edge of the firm's various businesses, leveraging technology and quantitative methods to solve real-world business problems. Strategists have helped the firm serve its clients by developing trading systems, risk management tools, and novel approaches to thinking about and trading the various markets we participate. Ideal candidates will have strong analytical skills paired with a desire to apply those skills within a collaborative, financial context. Strong performers are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable dealing with ambiguity when tackling challenging problems. Team members are also expected to have an ownership-mindset and a focus on helping internal and external clients. Job Summary Candidates joining the rates SMM trading desk will develop, maintain, and improve the various aspects of our automated trading business. All team members (traders and strategists) are expected to be hands-on with writing software, driving their ideas and projects to production. Tasks might include improving our pricing models, developing and improving core infrastructure, implementing trading algorithms, and researching how to improve our revenue outcomes. Basic Qualifications Experience in Java programming language Experience with Unix-based operating systems and basic shell scripting Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Experience working with distributed software systems in Core Java Experience collaborating on a large-scale, enterprise codebase Familiarity with Git or a similar modern version control system Experience working with large-scale datasets in in Python ABOUT GOLDMAN SACHS At Goldman Sachs, we commit our people, capital and ideas to help our clients, shareholders and the communities we serve to grow. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
