Academic Advisor, Graduate Alternative Certification Programs, College of Education The position deals primarily with graduate students, and requires the ability to work with UMSL personnel and K-12 school districts to recruit and support teachers completing teacher certification through UMSL alternative teacher certification programs. A knowledge of the Teach for America or Teach Residency programs, or similar alternative teacher certification programs, is desired.
1. Advise graduate students on a variety of academic and teacher certification issues including satisfying degree programs, teacher certification, scholastic and probationary problems, and department policies and procedures. 2. Track and monitor students' progress, monitor and update graduate student academic records for degree audits and graduation. 3. Communicate certification and degree progress and issues with students. 4. Assist students with graduate school admission, course registration, communicate course offerings and track enrollments. 5. Evaluate student progress, monitor grades, and respond to faculty academic concerns about students. 6. Track and coordinate student financial aid. 7. Track and coordinate student progress with UMSL admissions. 8. Track and coordinate student progress with DESE for certification, Alternative and Initial Certifications. 9. Track and coordinate student progress with partner schools. 10. Work with instructors, UMSL graduate school, and hiring districts to solve student related performance issues. 11. Work with hiring school districts re certification issues and progress. 12. Monitor and recommend Provisional completers to DESE using UMSL/DESE approval system. 13. Create and track approval process for provisional certificates. 14. Assist students to submit to the graduate school all applications for degrees. 15. Complete program completers' requests for verification for certification applications for other states. 16. Assist other program advisors where needed and with all UMSL forms, requirements, etc.
Essential Administrative Position Responsibilities/Duties Faculty 1. Assist faculty by providing information regarding the alternative teaching certification programs and course scheduling and needs. 2. Assist faculty and instructors with all system access needs. 3. Provide sample syllabi and course materials. Obtain approved samples. 4. Maintain adjunct records and assist director in selecting contacting, and hiring. 5. Provide payroll with necessary information for faculty contracts.
Student Services, Course Scheduling, and Enrollment 1. Assist graduate students with non-academic problem solving and refer students to appropriate campus and teacher certification resources. 2. Develop and send semester enrollment information/letters/emails to all student groups. 3. Assign sections and enroll each student through My View, track and maintain section balances. 4. Notify students of enrollment holds or enrollment issues. 5. Handle all student course drops/adds/withdraws/ swaps with advisors, instructors, registration and the graduate office. 6. Plan and coordinate program course schedules. 7. Obtain needed course materials.
Program Services 1. Handle all email and phone inquiries. 2. Assist in developing and distributing marketing materials for programs. 3. Maintain liaison with personnel in the College of Education, Graduate Education Office, and COE Advising to effectively meet student, faculty, and program needs. 4. Assist with planning and coordinating programs and materials to orient new students. 5. Maintain course syllabi and evaluations. 6. Respond to school district inquiries about teacher certification. 7. Submit updates for the COE Website and other marketing. 8. Set up on-campus events and class meetings, catering, parking etc. as needed. 9. Prepare materials for TFA summer internships/residencies/inductions as needed. 10. Monitor and communicate DESE certification requirements for all programs. 11. Complete and assist with university forms and reports as required.

Pay commensurate with education and experience. Hiring Range: $41,000 - $43,000 annually Grade: GGS-008 University Title: Academic Advisor
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
