The role will be leading the Corporate Operational Risk Management Governance team and manages professional staff, from multiple regions. The group is responsible for generating enterprise level Operational Risk analysis for BNY Mellon overall. This involves integrating inputs from the businesses and other assessment teams including Compliance, Finance, Audit, and regulatory feedback in a manner that will help Executive Management, the Board, regulators, and the broader community understand the enterprise operational risk portfolio to inform strategic decision making. This includes oversight of the Top Operational Risks, the Enterprise High Level Assessment, and the Operational Risk Committee, as well as other responsibilities. This is a critical role that will deliver integrated solutions in line with regulatory expectations.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Oversight of senior management reporting and ensure adherence to governance standards.
Overall governance of the Operational Risk Committee and Strategic Risk Committee including the risk synthesis, executive summaries, risk identification for Operational Risk enterprise wide.
Drive the design and implementation of integrated solutions for Operational Risk updates and regulatory remediation.
Collaborate with other specialist functions to achieve Operational Risk objectives and produce deliverables.
Oversee the business' maintenance of effective Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, High Level Assessments, Corporate Operational Risk Event notifications and reporting and scenario analyses consistent with the Corporate Operational Risk Management framework and provide challenge, as needed.
Direct a team that actively collaborates with both first and second lines of defense to manage and mitigate areas of operational risk that might arise from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, or external events.
Contribute to efforts to develop a strong operational risk culture and further develop the function's effectiveness as a second line of defense.
Recruit, direct, motivate, and develop professional staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth, and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team.
Ownership of applicable Risks and Controls in the Corporate Operational Risk Management Risk and Control Self-Assessment.
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 10-12 years of total work experience preferred with at least 3-5 years in management preferred.
Prior work experience in operational or enterprise risk management concepts, framework, methods and good governance practices.
Ability to analyze information and requirements to determine optimal ways to present that data in a clear and concise manner.
Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Strong communication skills interacting with staff, peers, and senior management with the capability to modify communication style as needed to a varied audience (e.g. explaining technical issues to non-technical colleagues).
Good understanding of regulatory environment, processes, activities and requirements.
Team-oriented individual that can lead by example.
