Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm's culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm's enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm's second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm's compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm's responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. Your impact
This position is in the Consumer Compliance Secondary Markets team, which identifies, assesses and mitigates regulatory and reputational risk as it relates to consumer and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) financial services transactions that the Firm enters into across EMEA. The regulatory and reputational risks relate to consumer and SME protection. You will have the opportunity to conduct due diligence on principal equity, financing, and advisory transactions originating in the Global Markets, Investment Banking and Asset Management Divisions.
Our impact
The Consumer Compliance team works closely with internal business, legal and credit teams, outside counsel, and other third-party advisors to conduct operational and regulatory due diligence on specific counterparties and consumer-related products or services offered. Consumer Compliance assists deal teams in assessing consumer risks and, in some cases, leads key components of the deal process.
How will you fulfil your potential
- Conduct asset and counterparty due diligence focused on regulatory requirements for consumer and SME protection
- Interact and manage deliverables with various internal teams as well as external advisors, clients and counterparties
- Analyse and form views on transactions and the associated consumer compliance and reputational risks for the purposes of presentation to Firm committees
- Develop and implement governance frameworks that are often transaction, jurisdiction and product specific
- Support the firm's risk governance framework as a representative of Consumer Compliance
- Provide ongoing support of transactions that require monitoring by consumer compliance
- Assess consumer compliance risks and controls as the Firm develops new lines of business
- Monitor the regulatory landscape to anticipate and implement changes to our framework
- Provide management information and reporting to senior compliance and business management
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience
- Regulatory or legal experience in consumer regulation is helpful but not essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong intellectual curiosity and interest in consumer financial products and payment services
- Knowledge of consumer regulations in the UK and/or other jurisdictions in EMEA
- Understanding of lifecycle of consumer lending products (e.g., instalment loans, mortgage, credit card)
- Ability to work collaboratively on a daily basis with a range of senior managers and peers to ask questions and build relationships
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound and balanced judgment and challenge when needed
- Strong project management, analytical, and functional skills
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Highly motivated, reliable, and accountable
- Some experience in compliance, legal, regulation or related business side experience in consumer finance would be helpful but is not essential
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
