Compensation: $48,000-$53,000 based on experience and licensing

POSITION SUMMARY

Mt. Scott Learning Center is a unique, community-oriented school that serves high school students who have not been successful in the traditional learning environment. We are seeking a full-time Language Arts teacher to work with high school students in our accredited, diploma-based program.

Teachers are responsible for developing highly differentiated curriculum and for providing instruction in academic classes as well as an advisory group. Applicants should be experienced with creating engaging curriculum.  The position requires that the teacher maintains regular contact with parents or guardians of an advisory group of students while providing support, mentorship and academic counseling for those students. Ideal candidates will have experience working with diverse groups of students who have struggled in the traditional school environment.  Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds are a must.

YOUR IMPACT AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom instruction

• Developing engaging curriculum and instructional strategies aligned with the Common Core State Standards
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with a variety of learning styles and skill levels
• Provide effective classroom management; embed the teaching of social skills and student success skills into classes
• Maintain attendance and academic records, such as regular progress reports and grade reports
• Participate as an active and generative team member with colleagues
• Maintain visibility, and awareness and contribute to supervision during passing periods, meals, and off campus trips
• Model professionalism and strong boundaries at all times

Advisory role

• Maintain regular contact with parents or guardians or advisees while providing support, mentorship and academic counseling for a group of advisees
• Support student understanding of academic credit needs and other requirements needed for success in school
• Assist advisees with academic planning and goal setting
• Facilitate lessons and build community with the group of advisees
