Senior Manager - ESG The Opportunity The Senior Manager - Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is a critical member of the Risk, Controls and Compliance team at Berkadia and will report to the SVP Chief Risk, Compliance & Information Security Officer. Your main responsibility lies in the creation, internal alignment, and successful implementation of Berkadia ESG reporting strategy. Subsequently, you will be primarily responsible for company efforts to develop accurate, relevant, and timely ESG disclosures for Berkadia through the annual sustainability report and assist in the preparation for engagement with rating agencies and relevant shareholders. This role will have a unique opportunity to build our ESG disclosure beyond our sustainability agenda. To be successful in this role you must possess strong stakeholder influencing skills and be a natural leader: you must work collaboratively across operating units, bringing together colleagues from diverse functions, lead them and make them understand ESG reporting is a key priority for Berkadia. This leader will be responsible for enacting and managing the company's corporate environmental sustainability strategy and ensuring that the company's business practices are economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. Strategic Leadership - Overall coordination for ESG within Berkadia, ensuring seamless connection with Berkadia's strategy and collaboration between business units and functions.
- Lead the development and implementation of coherent ESG reporting strategy aligning with the sustainability strategy (e.g., Human Rights, Human Capital, data and cyber security, diversity, and inclusion, et...)
- Bring the outside world in; monitor, review, and interpret ESG market and regulatory developments and requirements and transfer these to the organization and lead integration where needed.
- Propose strategic movements and actions that Berkadia can take to improve ESG performance, delivering an even more positive impact for people and the planet.
- Raise organizational awareness on ESG topics and guide - and cooperate with departments to integrate ESG requirements and manage future proof KPI setting and reporting definitions
Reporting - Secure best-in-class ESG reporting standards, by working cross-functionally, to capture and analyze macro and micro trends, global developments and risks, stakeholder expectations, current and new ESG legislation, and mandatory and voluntary disclosures.
- Provide direction on content and data for sustainability/ESG reporting, in collaboration with the Berkadia Communication team to support the strategic development of the sustainability/ESG reports.
- Drive the long-term ambition toward integrated reporting (financial and non-financial) with ESG data consolidation, business control and management reporting from across the business to ensure the consistency and accuracy of Berkadia external integrated reporting of financial and ESG data.
- Build strong relationship with the Berkadia financial (and ESG) auditor to support an effective ESG audit process and co-ordinate management responses to audit points.
- Lead the development of ESG reporting tools and processes in close cooperation and support of Berkadia's PM to enable efficient reporting.
Sustainability/ESG stakeholder engagement - Assist with investor and agency relationships and collaborate with Investor Relations to respond to inquiries from ESG investors and rating agencies
- Assist in developing shareholder engagement plans and drafting of all prep materials for management meetings with ESG investors
- Provide input for the development of external messaging on company practices across a broad range of ESG areas and effectively articulates the company's practices and progress to the investment community
- Lead engagement efforts with proxy proponents in conjunction with Legal and the IR team
- Partner with key cross functional partners to:
- Establish and coordinate strategy on developing, refining, and advancing ESG communication goals
- Prepare briefings for the Management Committee on ESG investor trends and sentiment inclusive of peer analysis and leading company benchmarks
- Contribute to periodic ESG "materiality" assessments
- Be responsible for the content of the ESG portion of Berkadia's website, working with internal partners to build out and refresh content
What someone will need to be successful in this role - Bachelor's degree
- 5-8 years of experience
- Knowledge & expertise in sustainability and ESG, related reporting and how to apply ESG/sustainability standards to advance sustainability/ESG within the organization
- Able to independently drive & deliver complex ESG programs and influence others in a matrixed organizational style
