Working as part of Columbia Threadneedle's Global Operations and Investor Services (GOIS) Business Risk & Control team, delivering operational, regulatory and/or financial risk management support to GOIS business units. Works with the Business Risk and Controls Director to support business and functional heads discharge their first-line risk management obligations in line with policy and regulation. Ensure an integrated risk framework and strong control environment by leading the organization in the proactive identification of risk, continuous control improvement and issue mitigation.
Provide operational and/or financial risk management by working with the Director to support the organization in critical risk control development and day-to-day risk oversight for complex product lines.
Work with functional RLOs and business owners to support first line of defense Risk Management delivery.
Provide project support and lead process reviews identifying risk and developing solutions while maintaining regulatory and supervisory controls.
Serve as escalation point of contact/ risk liaison to ensure appropriate information exchange.
Pro-actively identify opportunities and recommend solutions to mitigate current and future business risk. Provide leadership, training, coaching as appropriate.
Review trends in Risk Events in business function to feed into proposals of Senior Leader communications.
Review risk and control inventories/process maps/Key Risk Indicators, risk ratings for completeness and accuracy.
Work with business partners to assess and reflect the impacts of Risk Events, Industry developments. Regulatory changes, policy/procedure/system changes on their risk profile and control environment.
Supports with writing/reviewing select policies and procedures.
Runs tracker or project management for controls remediation projects.
Coordinates Business Continuity Processes and operational resilience exercises.
Supports with coordination and performing risk assessment activities and Risk Controls Committee deep dives; prepares recommendations for presentation to functional head.
Ensures timely and accurate Risk Event recording and proposes escalation.
Oversees Risk Event action remediation.
Reviews risk trends and recommends actions.
Conducts risk-based testing at the direction of the Director.
Supports Director in coordinating responses to findings from Risk Liaison Officer testing, RCS assurance or SOx testing
Supports preparation of agenda/papers for Business/Function control meeting
Support preparation of updates for Risk Controls Committee, where required for escalation purposes
Reviews internal and industry best practices, Risk/Compliance guidance, champions 2nd line Risk initiatives, makes recommendations to Director.
Bachelor's degree and 7-10 years' experience in an audit function, operational risk, controls, or business management.
Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
Knowledge of current techniques in operational risk management, controls, and operational soundness.
Ability to assess data points (e.g., inherent risk, residual risk, emerging risks, control effectiveness) to propose an actionable plan to bring data points into tolerance.
Ability to test control design, effectiveness
Ability to capture Business Processes in narrative and visual process flow format to conduct process design and control environment effectiveness assessments.
Proficiency in risk management/testing and validation tools such as MetricStream, Archer, RCSA and Visio
Governance: ability to create targeted and high-quality papers for governance forums, working at the direction of the Director
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to drive results and meet deadlines.
Solution oriented creative thinker
Proven ability to partner with business leaders in assessing and mitigating risks.
Previous experience in the Asset Management/Investment Fund Management industry middle and back-office operations/compliance/risk/oversight.
