The APAC Director of Sustainability & ESG is part of Citi's Sustainability & ESG team, which is responsible for the development and execution of Citi's Sustainable Progress Strategy, coordinating Citi's net zero plan, managing ESG ratings and disclosure, and other priority initiatives. The Sustainability & ESG team manages environmental, climate change, human rights and other stakeholder and business issues in partnership with Citi's businesses, risk functions and operational teams.
This position is located in Singapore. This role directly reports to Citi's Chief Sustainability Officer, who is based in New York City, and matrix reports to the APAC Regional Public Affairs Officer, who is based in Hong Kong.
This role will be responsible for developing, managing and helping to implement Citi's APAC sustainability approach in alignment with Citi's global sustainability strategy, in partnership with Citi's regional Public Affairs Officers ("PAOs"), regional Government Affairs and the businesses. The position involves identifying regional and country-level sustainability priorities and opportunities; working closely with internal business leaders, PAOs, and Citi Country Officers (CCOs) to develop and implement our sustainability program; managing associated reputational risks; and engaging with external stakeholders including clients, policy makers and non-governmental organizations to execute on those strategies. Part of the role will involve developing the necessary internal and external relationships in the region and representing the Sustainability & ESG team at external events and in client and regulatory engagements.
Identify and communicate regional and global sustainability, climate and ESG issues and the implications for Citi's businesses and reputation to senior management, the CCOs, business heads and GPA
Research and analyze regional and country-based sustainability issues, and identify areas of potential reputational or business risk as well as opportunity
Work within the Sustainability & ESG team and with senior management, CCOs, PAOs, Government Affairs, business heads, risk management and operations to design and implement regional sustainability initiatives that benefit Citi's sustainability business goals, leadership positioning and impact
Participate in external meetings with clients and other stakeholders to represent Citi's sustainability, climate change and ESG approach and to share best practices
Support CCOs in their efforts to build and maintain government, business and other relationships within a country by providing sustainability-related strategic advice, talking points and background information, leveraging work done in other countries
Be a value-added resource to senior management and business leaders to provide insight and guidance on sustainability risks in the region and how to manage those risks
Participate in frequent calls with the Sustainability & ESG team to maintain close coordination and alignment on sustainability issues and priorities
Work with PAOs as part of Global Public Affairs to ensure that messages are consistent across Citi
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Minimum 10+ years of experience in sustainability, preferably with developing and implementing sustainability strategy either with a major corporation or industry association
Strong understanding of sustainability and climate change issues as they impact business and the financial sector
Strong knowledge of banking and finance products and terminology
Highly developed emotional intelligence and ability to influence others, including experience engaging senior business leaders
Collaborative mindset, and ability to work with a wide range of internal partners from across the bank
Exceptional work ethic, with the ability to multi-task and work in a high-performance professional environment
Flexible, a good sense of humor, and a team player
