The Head of Legal, Markets Asia leads and manages the legal team that support ANZ???s Markets Asia business. The team sits within the Institutional Legal Group (ILG) and has people based in locations across Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. This role is accountable for all legal services provided to ANZ???s Markets business in Asia and provides strategic legal advice to senior management of the Markets Asia business and its Risk partners, helping to ensure the right outcomes are achieved.
The Head of Legal, Markets Asia is expected to have a deep understanding of financial markets and will work closely with the ANZ???s Markets business and its Risk partners to provide practical, commercial and legally sound solutions to achieve great outcomes for ANZ Markets and its customers. The role will oversee the legal services provided by internal and external legal teams to ensure ANZ???s Markets business is consistently provided with high quality legal services and is aware of the legal risks involved in transactions and matters. As a people leader, the Head of Legal, Markets Asia is expected to be a role model and to help promote ANZ's core values, demonstrate New Ways of Leading and its aspirational culture.
About You To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following -
Tertiary legal qualification from a common law jurisdiction and admission as a lawyer in England and Wales and/or an equivalent recognised jurisdiction.
Well-seasoned post-qualification experience (PQE) in areas relevant to the Markets business: laws relating to derivatives, structured products, financial services, market conduct, competition, market infrastructure and capital markets.
Transactional and advisory experience as in-house counsel and within a leading law firm, including: product development, transactional experience in the Markets business areas, regulatory interactions, disputes, defaults, advising on financial services regulation, licensing and breach reporting, market misconduct and conduct risk, clearing, trading platforms and markets infrastructure, netting and implementation of regulatory change.
ISDA Documentation: Deep knowledge and experience in advising on ISDA documentation relevant to the Markets businesses.
Understanding of Markets businesses: Deep commercial understanding of the Markets businesses, including: Rates, FX, Credit, DCM, Structured Solutions, Commodities and Repo.
Exposure to both the law and market practices relevant to the Markets business in Australia, Asia and Europe.
Strong technical legal expertise with strong leadership and the ability to influence senior executives. Demonstrate a high level of inter-cultural sensitivity and the ability to lead a culturally and geographically diverse team, values driven, have a well-developed risk radar and ability to speak-up respectfully.
Demonstrate a track record of influencing senior stakeholders effectively. Must have the ability to synthesise complex legal advice, place it firmly in a business context and convey it in a compelling manner to senior executives.
Demonstrate the ability to lead a team based across different geographies in Asia.
The ability to think and work differently with a flexible growth mindset.
