The position offers the candidate an opportunity to work closely with senior individuals at leading investment banks, helping to shape the debate on key tax and regulatory reforms to promote efficient and effective European capital markets.
You will establish and run working groups comprised of subject matter experts appointed by our member firms, and drive cross-industry collaboration.
In relation to Tax, your responsibility will be to expand AFME's work on key tax priorities, driving forward the work programme with the AFME European Tax Forum members. You will be responsible for analysing proposals from the European Commission, OECD and relevant national authorities, covering a range of tax topics, for example transaction taxes, withholding tax, VAT, tax reporting, digital taxes, environmental taxes, and for delivery of outputs such as position papers and industry guidance. You will be responsible for the creation of new or amended FTT protocols and for maintenance of existing protocols.
In relation to Regulatory Compliance, your responsibility will be to support the objectives of the AFME Compliance Committee and working groups. These cover all aspects of regulatory compliance and conduct relating to EU and UK market regulation, including the way that the control function is changing in a remote/hybrid working environment, the expectations of the European and National Competent Authorities, and the developing regulatory landscape.
Within AFME you can expect to collaborate with teams from our other policy Divisions: Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Prudential Regulation, Post-Trade, and Technology and Operations. You will have a close dotted line relationship with colleagues in our Advocacy team.
Based on the issue in question, you will liaise with representatives from other trade associations including AFME's sister associations SIFMA and ASIFMA, based in New York and Hong Kong respectively, as well as other industry associations.
Development of policy positions
Draft responses to public consultations from key regulators/other public authorities
Develop position papers on European/international/national legislative proposals

Produce timely and detailed follow-ups arising from meetings

Thought Leadership and Research
Identify with AFME members projects that can add value by influencing the development of legislation, providing education, or best practices for the industry
Monitor developments at European, international and national level and circulate emails to members updating them on key developments
Produce research notes on relevant policy issues
Develop relationships with members
Develop relationships with other European trade associations
Develop relationships with key regulatory stakeholders
Attend and report back from industry forum meetings
Participate in team meetings, and, as appropriate, contribute to the running and development of the CCA division

Relevant professional qualification and experience, eg with accounting firm or law firm
Demonstrable expertise (3-4 years) in Tax
Excellent academic track record
Strong analytical skills
Intellectually curious, able to identify new themes relevant to members
Judgement to establish and monitor priorities, escalate issues and solicit feedback when required
Good time management and organisational ability to manage multiple work streams
Excellent written and spoken English
Second or third European language
Some experience in wider regulatory policy
