The Platform Operations (PO) organization is part of the Aladdin Product Group at BlackRock. It is responsible for ensuring a fully stable, resilient, scalable, and cost-efficient production environment across all our core investment systems. The APG PO group is seeking to hire a talented Web DevOps Engineer within the Global Web Operations & Engineering team to provide production application support, engineering and continuous improvement of BlackRock's internal and public web sites.
The team interacts regularly with other technology teams, project managers and software developers. The team uses sophisticated off-the-shelf software and develop our own tools to assist in managing and controlling a complex environment.
Your role and impact
This role is as a member of an established global team. The role involves administering and improving upon existing web infrastructure platform with eagerness to evaluate and understand new (and old) technologies.
The role requires understanding multi-tiered web application architecture, standard traffic flows, and service registration & authentication components. The role also requires ability to devise engineering solutions for web infrastructure using shell or perl or python scripts.
Developing relationships and working collaboratively with business leaders, software developers, and technology operational teams is expected out of this role. Successful candidates should demonstrate an ability to take total ownership of issues.
Our platform has started the journey of cloud migration, therefore looking for someone who has the exposure to implement cloud-based solutions, and understands the migration requirements for an on-prem solution to cloud

Your responsibilities - Engineering: build/improve web service resilience by introducing new technologies/tools, scalable solution, proactively and efficiently monitoring service status, with strong awareness of security.
- Issue Troubleshooting / Resolution: Work with the Operational teams to identify root cause & resolve issues and implement solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Flexibility: Handle multiple issues from multiple users and prioritize in terms of criticality, which to focus and resolve first.
- Build Efficiency: Identify, design, recommend, and implement scalable, efficient solutions to continuously improve applications' reliability and performance. Simply, automate and improve our methods to build more efficiency
- Communication: Build strong relationships with other teams through clear & concise communication, delivery and proven experience
You have... - 4+ years' experience in Web based applications with experience of DevOps/automation
- Strong programming experience (Java, Python, or Perl)
- Experience in working on Cloud based infrastructure (preferred Azure)
- Familiarity with content delivery networks & load balancing devices (F5s). log monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk)
- Knowledge of software development standard methodologies (analysis, design, development, testing) and basic understanding of Agile / Scrum methodology and practices
- Good understanding of Unix / Linux Operating System & hands on with Unix commands & regular expressions
- Understanding of Apache, JBoss, NGINX, Tomcat and Caching Servers like Squid and end-to-end flow of a Web HTTP request
- Experience in the finance industry or knowledge of financial products is a plus
- Understanding of service discovery and registration systems like Consul
