Role Purpose

Background

This is an exciting new role that has been created in procurement to support the newly formed Wholesale business. Wholesale has an annual IT spend of $50m in product and support and $100m on IT professional services. This role will take a lead in defining and executing procurement strategy for the Wholesale bank, working with their Global Category Manager and Category Managers to ensure alignment. The role encompasses procuring wide ranging IT software and services, from low to high value and complexity.

This role reports into the IT Solutions Global Category Manager who supports both Wholesale Bank and Group Functions (WBGF) and is part of a team of two other category managers who support Wholesale Bank and Group Functions.

Role overview

• Be a lead on Wholesale IT software and services strategic deals acting as a key influencer on these deals, driving them forward and displaying your subject matter expertise and wealth of experience to executive level. Ensuring continual communication is key to this success.
• On a global basis, with oversight from WBGF Global Category Manager, lead strategy and planning for a Procurement category to deliver competitive advantage for business through cost savings, lifecycle value generation, demand management and innovation.
• With deep category knowledge, this will be achieved through the creation and continual review of robust and forward-looking category plans and sourcing plans that use the full range of supply and demand-side levers.
• The role will develop influential senior level relationships with designated businesses and functions on behalf of all of the Procurement sub- functions including ownership of both Buying Channel and PSL compliance.
• Key to success are advanced skills in analysis/synthesis in the application of a range of commercial models, with a focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
• This is a key strategic role with the expectation of delivery and executing, working with virtual SMEs in both Category Management and in-country sourcing teams on execution activity.

Role Dimensions

• The GCM will be responsible for Wholesale procurement category.
• The spend managed by the GCM will be between $130m USD per annum
• This has no management responsibility but expected to be a leader within the team
• Number of supplier's = c100+

GCM is accountable for the negotiation of contracts of unlimited value subject to final approval by the Chief Procurement Officer or Group Chief Executive.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

• The GCM will sit on relevant leadership committees and positively influence appropriate forums of the businesses/ functions. The GCM will also be responsible for the following:
  • Creation of category strategies and plans to achieve or exceed agreed savings targets for the category working alongside the WBGF Global category manager.
  • Driving business outcomes and behaviours with deep subject matter expertise to drive value through the category planning lifecycle.
  • Constantly monitoring supplier market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts (e.g. entry or exit of suppliers, changes in pricing, risk on category).
  • Seeking alternatives to current category specifications/ demand parameters.
    Continually monitoring buying channel compliance for the business/ function with whom they own the Procurement relationship and driving corrective action as necessary.
• Conducting strategic reviews, managing performance review and developing joint account plans with key stakeholders/suppliers.
