Our client a reputable securities business trading in shares, commodities and indices require a "Development Operations Systems Engineer". The individual will be monitoring, supporting, and maintaining computer systems and financial trading platforms. In addition the individual will support the firms applications, data centres, and initiate and develop tools for bespoke and third parties for automating software engineering and delivery.
Primarily the individual will be supporting and maintaining trading applications, coupled with developing and implementing tools for automating key software engineering processes, namely monitoring, integration, testing, and environmental deployments and releases. Scripting and regular manual tasks, to improve on-going business processes will need to be undertaken in the role.
On the "Application Systems & Platform Support" side of the role, the individual will undertake the following;
Support, monitor, enhance and operate Retail and Institutional Financial Trading platforms, and other in-house applications
Manage service delivery under ITIL service delivery and incident management procedures, and to follow up escalations
Work closely with the in-house development and QA teams to bridge the gap with Business and Front Office
Apply or coordinate new changes and updates/patches/releases to applications
Administer and enhance monitoring tools/solutions to ensure applications are available and operating efficiently. Outrages are identified , and any risks addressed promptly
Create and implement automated scripts to standardise routine activities
Assist line managers in identifying gaps and providing temporary and permanent fixes on existing support and service management framework
Assist the line manager in creating automated tools and scripts to make the most out of available infrastructure (back end optimisation)
Provide on-site and remote support to users
Ability to troubleshoot both trading and core applications as well as niche applications end-to end
Provide support put of hours and on call
BSc IT, Computer Science/Engineering discipline
Supporting experience with Windows & Linux based applications
Supporting experience with Windows & Linux servers in virtualised and Cloud environments as well as bare metal
Development/scripting experience in any of C++, C#, Java, Python, Powershell, Ruby preferred
Experience or familiarity with development tools such as Puppet, Docker, Bamboo, Terraform, Kubernetes, Gitlab, Kibana
Experience in a user support/management working with multi - cultural/multinational environment
Previous experience supporting Low Latency high frequency environments infrastructure an advantage
Exposure working with heterogeneous database technologies
Cloud technologies knowledge and exposure preferred
Experience supporting Forex ad Equity trading applications and platforms is an added advantage
ITIL foundation certificate MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, systems and security certificates and any further IT accreditation's are a strong advantage for the right candidate
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to work under pressure and under direction of demanding clients cross border
Ability to multi-task, and a proven record of delivering applications and projects
Strong understanding of FIX protocol and its application with F/X trading
Deep knowledge, and experience supporting client facing SLA's and tiered support methodologies (ITIL standards preferred)
Understanding of TCP/IP, SSL and financial network technologies
Experience working with and supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL, DB2 & MS SQL database technologies an advantage
Knowledge of local and networked file systems e.g NFS, DFS, NTFS, DNS)
Familiarity with systems tools and protocols (e.g SNMP, Managed Engine, Nagios Zabbix etc)
Skills to accept and adapt to different challenges and requirements of work
