The eDiscovery Engineer will be part of the Security team and will collaborate regularly with legal, paralegals, case managers, outside counsel, eDiscovery service providers, IT and business partners, to provide technical operations support for eDiscovery tasks and initiatives. You will also be responsible for various technical operational matters related to the delivery of technology and eDiscovery services. You will work closely, hand in hand with our data science team to ensure data is available and accurate for discovery purposes.
Support legal hold procedures and processes by liaising on back-end implementation within Security and IT, particularly around non-custodial data and systems.
Responsible for keeping abreast of the company's strategy on software and systems to identify potential eDiscovery preservation and collection issues, and to ensure compliance with legal requirements and policies.
Work with Security and IT to develop and maintain policy documentation as it relates to hardware retention, data retention and discovery from hardware (mobile and laptops). Engage in changes to these policies as products and processes evolve in accordance with legal requirements.
Participate in developing and maintaining data maps of the technical architecture related to eDiscovery preservation and collection strategy and policies.
Identify potential eDiscovery and defensible disposition opportunities and risks within the company's technical architecture and systems, and work with the relevant teams to find solutions to these.
Help develop and support legal's technical requirements for eDiscovery policy, strategy, and tools.
Actively participate in the evaluation and proof of concept process for new software products that are being considered for onboarding within legal support of the eDiscovery processes.
Coordinate with IT on the administration, support and configuration of eDiscovery support systems.
Actively participate in project management of eDiscovery software updates.
Serve as a legal representative participating in maintenance, upgrades, and migrations of the systems and products associated with legal applications to ensure compliance
Keep Legal, Security and IT management informed about critical issues that may affect systems and tools being leveraged for eDiscovery purposes.
Skills, Traits & Competencies:
Strong technical engineering background. If asked to process a large volume of data, of unknown quantity and format, you could design a system to do this, on short deadlines.
Minimum 5 years of experience in supporting systems related to eDiscovery, litigation support and forensic analysis infrastructure, data storage platforms and normalization pipelines both on premise and in the cloud (AWS preferred).
Knowledge of and experience with enforcing and auditing of legal requirements regarding email retention, file retention, device retention, etc.
Strong knowledge of eDiscovery and Records Information Management best practices with the ability to use judgment in applying that knowledge to specific technology.
Understanding of computer forensics processes, risk analysis, and technology.
Working knowledge of and experience with mobile and client management systems.
IT change and project management experience (ITIL Preferred).
The ability to describe complex technical concepts and ideas in non-technical terms, and to provide technical input into eDiscovery policies and procedures.
