JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. ("JPMorgan") is seeking to hire Senior Counsel, Assistant Vice President, to join its Securities Services Legal Practice Group to advise and support J.P. Morgan's Securities Services business globally.
The Securities Services business operates across all regions worldwide and its principal activities include providing global custodial services, fund administrative services, securities lending programs, depositary services for regulated funds and collateral management services for mutual and pension funds, managed investment schemes, multi-national corporations, banks and non-bank financial institutions, and government bodies worldwide. In connection with its global custodial offering, Securities Services maintains a network of subcustodians in 100+ markets.
Location and Reporting Lines:
The position is in Hong Kong, reporting to the Securities Services Regional Senior Counsel for APAC.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a member of the APAC Securities Services Legal Team, the role will primarily comprise of the following:
Provide legal support for Securities Services product initiatives, which includes conducting legal due diligence
Draft and negotiate a variety of Securities Services contracts (e.g., global & direct custody agreements, subcustodian agreements, fund accounting & related services agreements, securities lending agreements, and collateral management services agreements)
Advise management and key stakeholders on legal, regulatory, risk and compliance matters relating to the Securities Services business
Participate on regional and global legal initiatives, including developing templates, know-how, best practices and procedures
Instruct and work with outside counsel (including managing legal costs)
Assist with regulatory enquiries and investigations
Common law jurisdiction qualified with 4 to 8 years legal experience (optimally, a combination of experience as in-house counsel in the financial services industry and as a lawyer in a top tier law firm)
Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, together with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues on all levels locally, regionally and globally
Fluent in English and Mandarin, both written and oral
Ability to prioritize and manage workflow in an active and multi-jurisdictional transactional environment
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across Front Office, Operational, Risk and Compliance functions
Ability to timely and appropriately identify and escalate issues
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and respond to business needs and goals
Ability to adapt and apply legal skills in new businesses and subjects in which the lawyer may not have expertise, and willingness to develop and excel beyond his/her comfort zone
Ideally, prior experience in the area of custodial, funds and/or securities related services
