Team Overview Schroders Investment Management's Credit Research team undertakes corporate credit analysis of a wide universe of bond issuers - public and private companies, supranational agencies and securitised structures. Our aim is to provide benchmark beating performance to our portfolio managers by providing both accurate fundamental credit research and relative value recommendations to be adopted into by our team of portfolio managers. The Credit Research team consists of over 35 research specialists, each undertaking industry and issuer analysis in three broad regions - America, EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) and Asia. The London-based EMEA team currently consists of 13 fundamental and quantitative analysts covering IG and HY issuers in the full range of credit sectors in both developed markets and emerging markets concentrating on EMEA but also generating ideas for the wider team around the world.
Overview of role The EMEA team requires an analyst to undertake credit research specifically into bond issues within the corporate sector for both Investment Grade and High Yield entities with a slant towards the latter. The nub of the role is to be able to analyse and understand the business and financial risk profile of the business as well as the details of specific bond issues. An overall assessment of risk and valuation will then be communicated to the Schroders credit PMs using our proprietary framework. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team with our entire desk to generate investment ideas.
The candidate will possess considerable knowledge of certain specific sectors (as detailed below) and will also be able to demonstrate exceptional analytical skills as well as examples of managing workflow under tight deadlines/situations of stress. A strong track record of alpha generation in an analyst role is a pre-requisite. A first class degree or upper-second with post-graduate degree and/or progress through the CFA system (or equivalent) is also expected.
Essential Skills Demonstrated deep fundamental knowledge of one or more of the Leisure, Debt Collection, Healthcare and Infrastructure & Transport sectors Experience with an active asset manager of at least the size and scope of Schroders Coverage of high yield names at an active credit manager Exceptional analytical skills and ability to develop forward looking investment theses Experience in analysing financial statements and producing financial forecasts Strong communication skills and workflow management Highly-developed sense of teamwork and co-operation Excellent academic record
