We are looking for an experienced Economist to join the research team in our HK office. Primary focus will be China and several other Asian countries. Responsibilities will include:
Following closely economic and political trends in the countries of coverage. Provide written and verbal analyses to the rest of the investment team.
Making forecasts on economic variables such as inflation, GDP growth, current account and fiscal balance
Analyzing central bank reaction functions and making calls on monetary policy.
Understanding the linkages between the countries of coverage and the global economy.
Using econometric tools to analyze the business cycle and anticipate its evolution.
Participating at least twice a week to global investment meetings with the rest of the investment team.
The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the research team in Hong Kong to provide unified and seamless coverage of the region and will report in to the Chief Economist.
Required qualities and skills:
Strong academic background in macroeconomics.
Excellent verbal and oral communication skills in English.
Ability to prepare and conduct presentations to the investment team.
Fluent in Mandarin.
Strong work ethic.
Solid knowledge of and past experience covering Asian markets.
Ability to analyze and understand economic cycles.
Ability to identify and communicate interesting and relevant findings in your countries of coverage with the portfolio managers.
Ability to spontaneously engage with portfolio managers to provoke discussions and debates that can lead to a breakthrough.
Familiarity with statistical software like Statistica, EViews, SPSS, STATA and MS Office
