Position Overview SVB Capital is the venture capital investment arm of global financial services firm SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ SIVB). SVB Capital manages approximately $4.5 billion across venture capital fund of funds and direct investments in companies within the innovation economy.
SVB Capital is seeking a dynamic individual to help build scalable database infrastructure, as well as implement new data science and engineering initiatives to support the firm's investment businesses. The Manager will join the Data Science and Engineering team, but will also work closely with investment and finance professionals. This individual will manage a small team of data engineers, and will be involved in the implementation of new products, tools, and applications.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Manage a relational database that houses SVB Capital's proprietary information
Manage a small team of data science and engineering professionals
Implement new data science initiatives and build predictive analytics models using SVB's proprietary and external data sets
Support investment sourcing and due diligence with data-driven analysis
Present SVB Capital's data science strategy to internal and external constituents
Oversee SVB Capital's business partnerships, which includes an offshore team of 8 consultants in India
Build ETL procedures to automate data loads
Create data visualizations and business intelligence dashboards using software such as Tableau
Work with the engineering team to develop new products and tools
3-6 years of experience in a data science, IT, engineering, or investment role
Proficiency in SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite) and MS Excel is required
Hands on experience using statistical software such as Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-Learn), Julia, MATLAB, TensorFlow, R, or Stata is required
Proficiency in Tableau (or BI software equivalent) is a plus
Web development experience (Django, React) is a plus
Experience building RESTful APIs is a plus
People management experience is a plus
Knowledge of the venture capital industry, investment valuation and business technology
Demonstrated ability to automate manual processes
Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills; thrives on solving problems
Ability to navigate ambiguous and complex situations
Strong ownership and accountability skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Process oriented with the ability to step back and see the big picture
Comfortable mapping and analyzing large sets of data
Bachelor's degree or equivalent required (preferred majors are Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, or other quantitative majors)
