This position will be a business development and loan origination leader for the Project Finance team into new energy and other asset classes that align strategically with SVB. The new position will work closely with other Managing Directors and team to build SVB's portfolio and presence in targeted markets. The MD will bring a network of financial and sponsor contacts to augment those of SVB and which will provide entry into new markets. The position will provide market leadership and presence representing SVB as a world class bank. Finally, the position will contain a level of structured finance creativity to assist in the development of new products to finance emerging technology assets in earlier deployment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Identify/originate project finance debt transactions. Drive and monitor terms and conditions appropriate for SVB and market.
Bring and build strong relationships with relevant financial institutions, sponsors, and developers.
Lead the negotiation of large loan transactions
Collaborate with the syndications and relationship management teams when appropriate
Oversee deal memos for transactions.
Adhere to compliance procedures and internal/operational risk controls in accordance with any and all applicable regulatory standards, requirements, and policies
Play integral role in the mentorship and training of junior team members to help ensure cross training and strong long term platform build out.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Ideal candidate profile:
The successful candidate will be a domain expert in Project Finance with familiarity and experience in the financing both debt and tax equity structures.
Experience in a range of renewable energy and other energy sectors.
The ideal candidate will have ten years of experience in project finance or a combination of related Investment Banking and Credit.
The person in this role will have deep experience to analyze and understand project construction budgets and risk, evaluate power purchase agreements, and other contacts, and assess the financial viability of power projects.
Experience in tax equity transactions or complimentary exposure to tax equity structures.
Deep understanding of project finance legal documentation and proven ability to negotiate complex transaction.
Knowledge of the skills (in order to manage) necessary for modeling contractual and technical parameters, and performing sensitivity analysis as well as to prepare internal reporting
This is a creative, client facing role in which polished presentations skills will be equally as important a deep credit skills and technical industry expertise.
An absolute must is the ability to balance work well among various banking teams, syndications, clients, credit risk managers, and portfolio managers.
Experience in the role of Lead Arranger for syndicated project finance credits is critical.
The ideal candidate will quickly establish credibility on all fronts and will have the energy, knowledge and drive to serve as a thought leader within a rapidly growing business for SVB.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or relevant experience; Advanced degree a plus - i.e. MBA, MS or LLM degree
Ten years of experience in project finance or a combination of related Investment Banking and Credit.
