Strategic Innovation, Analytics & Research (SIAR) has a mandate to provide analytical support and solutions to three analytical groups at Fitch Ratings: Global Infrastructure and Project Finance (GIG), US Public Finance and International Public Finance. ( The positions advertised relate to the support provided to GIG.)
Global Infrastructure rates over 600 transactions globally covering nine diverse infrastructure sectors highlighted by our Rating Criteria: renewable power, thermal power, seaports, whole business securitisation, availability-based projects, airports, toll roads, GARVEE leveraged loans and US sports.
The role is available on a temporary basis (minimum six months full time contract with possible extension to 12 months). Position may be based in Austin, TX or Chicago, IL.
Fitch's SIAR is looking for a financial modeller or analyst with strong and in-depth understanding of cash flow modelling and experience auditing or reviewing cash flow models to assist the GIG's Model and Procedure Officer in the review and management of the cash flow models and tools used in the rating process.
The successful candidate will contribute to GIG's model management process by cooperating with analysts in checking models. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the Global Infrastructure Group's ongoing projects to enhance, standardise, automate and customise the existing cash flow model templates.
The successful candidate will develop an in-depth understanding of the theoretical background for the Fitch's models and tools, their use in the ratings process, and the related Rating Criteria in order to support the GIG's analytical team. They will be key contacts for analysts for questions on the Global Infrastructure and Project Finance Group's model and tool management within the analytical team.
While the roles do not include serving as the primary or secondary analyst on any transactions, or voting in rating committees held to assign ratings, the successful candidate will sit within GIG and work closely with the analytical team. The successful candidate may also work with the central Model Development Team to ensure models and tools are developed and maintained in line with Fitch policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and operational needs.
The role offers broad exposure to Fitch's Global Infrastructure and Project Finance Group's rating process, Fitch's growing model management function and Fitch's second line of defence risk management teams. As a result, the successful candidate will experience working with a wide variety of people across multiple disciplines and geographies giving the opportunity for career development, from fundamental analysis to other areas of risk management.
The successful candidate will possess a combination of the below experience and knowledge:
Degree in quantitative disciplines
Strong Excel skills
Cash flow model build or review / audit experience
Good knowledge of corporate accounting and financial statements
Organisation skills and the ability to manage and prioritise workload
Good communication skills, including the ability to interact with a wide range of constituents and build good working relationships
VBA and Python knowledge a plus
Knowledge of fundamental project finance credit analysis a plus
Cash flow modelling or accountancy qualification a plus
Knowledge of Spanish and / or Portuguese a plus
