Ensures that effective risk management is embedded in day to day operations and reflected in our business strategies, and related activities. The role will lead the operational risk function overseeing the implementation of operational risk management framework and establishing the operating model for Operational Risk activities in compliance with regulatory requirements. The role will act as a key member of the ORM Leadership Team, providing review, challenge and input to overall governance
Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Operational Risk globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Leads Global Operational Risk Management practices and procedures including:
Enhancing the risk incident and issue management process through identification, assessment, monitoring, measurement, and testing of Operational Risks
Resolve and reporting operational risks
Reporting of operational risks across the enterprise and communicating risk information to senior management including:
Significant operational loss summary
Issue and action plans for Risk and Control self-assessments
Loss data and audit
Scenario Analysis including industry surveillance and control environment assessments
Mitigation of material risk exposures that exceed the approved risk appetite and or risk appetite limits
Developing standards, processes and tools for the first line of defence
Strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the operational risk framework, enhanced policies, and procedures ensuring systematic risk activities across the organization.
Implementation of a fundamentally sound Operational Risk Governance Program.
Identifying, evaluating, reviewing and overseeing key performance indicators
Leading Bank wide risk assessments for Operational Risks
Developing and implementing core risk management standards - taxonomies, definitions, libraries of controls, issue logs, KRIs
Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education / Experience
Undergraduate degree required; MBA or CA preferred
Min 10 years of related experience in risk management
Solid understanding of financial institutions, infrastructures and markets is an asset
Must understand the Bank and its component pieces including risk management, business lines, finance, legal, treasury, strategic review, compliance and AML
Able to work with various subject matter experts
Strong change management skills are critical
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven problem resolution skills
