Tax Services is responsible for managing the TD Bank Group\u2019s (\u201CTDBG\u201D) tax position, including strategy, compliance, reporting and liaising with finance and revenue authorities.
Reporting to the Head of Global Tax, this role is responsible for all aspects of tax planning as it relates to managing the Canadian and International (non-US) tax implications of TDBG\u2019s international operations. In addition, the role will be responsible for financial reporting in respect of cross-border arrangements and special purpose entities.
Leading the analysis of and applying the Canadian foreign affiliate tax rules and other cross border rules to our international activities, excluding Transfer Pricing;
Managing a small team of international tax experts;
Developing an understanding of foreign laws and their interaction with Canadian laws;
Working with Business Units to identify and implement international tax planning opportunities and resolve international tax issues;
Work with and support other Corporate Office functional areas, especially Corporate Development, to identify international tax planning opportunities and manage structural risks;
Liaising with and managing professional advisors, e.g., outside tax counsel;
Leading the project management and implementation of initiatives designed to manage TDBG\u2019s tax position;
Leading ad hoc projects requiring the identification and resolution of cross border tax issues;
Assisting in the financial reporting of our international operations; ensuring the Tax Compliance Team is aware of, and correctly interprets, the accounting consequences of our international operations
Managing various tax compliance matters such as surplus calculations, tax base calculations and reporting requirements such as T1134 returns (including the collection of enterprise-wide, historical data from various sources);
Interacting with Canadian tax authorities; including
Applying for rulings and technical interpretations;
Lobbying for legislative amendments;
Leading the strategic direction of the International Tax group;
Interacting with TDBG's senior management with respect to strategic international tax matters;
Working with the Canadian Bankers Association, other Financial Institutions and ad hoc coalitions on international tax matters.
Professional Designation (CA, CGA, CMA, MBA or LLB);
At least 10\u002B years of overall tax experience, with 7 or more years of Canadian cross-border tax experience; financial services experience is an asset;
Completed the CICA In-Depth tax course;
Strong organizational, leadership and task management skills and the ability to handle several projects simultaneously and deliver within tight timelines;
A team player with excellent people management and development skills; knows how to engage others;
Strong problem management and analytical skills and ability to think \u201Coutside of the box\u201D;
Strong oral, written, interpersonal and customer service skill set;
Credible influencer and consensus builder who is able to bring parties together in a cohesive manner.
