As a leading insurance and financial services company focused on meeting the evolving need of public K-12 teachers, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Senior Counsel position located in Addison, TX.
Reporting to the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, the Senior Counsel will have a thorough understanding of company policies and objectives and under general supervision will manage responsibilities of the Law Division as assigned. His or her work generally involves handling or directing matters of importance and impact on the organization and providing assistance on matters of significance. This position is for an experienced attorney with thorough competence in several legal areas of concentration and broad-based experience, maturity, and sound judgment.
Provide legal counsel and support for the Supplemental Division by utilizing legal expertise and strategic thinking to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements encountered in a corporate transactional and commercial context
Provide legal counsel and support on Corporate Compliance matters
Serve on special purpose cross-functional teams that require writing skills and legal analytics
Effectively manage resources by anticipating expenditures and accurately forecasting resource needs/costs
Create a positive environment by modeling cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, and creativity
Advise members of Law Division, Supplemental Division, and executive management with respect to the duties and responsibilities outlined above
Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
Admitted to practice law by a State Bar and be eligible to register as an In-House Counsel in the State of Texas
Three (3) years broad-based, relevant legal experience with a mid-size to large law firm, corporation, or regulatory agency
A strong desire to learn and assume ownership of highly complex, sometimes novel, legal issuesPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong academic credentials & business acumen
Excellent analytical, organizational, detail-oriented, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to provide top-quality, proactive, accurate and effective legal support in a fast moving environment
Ability to effectively work with management and other personnel
