Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Counsel (Litigation/Operations). This is a unique opportunity for a mid-level litigator to transition in-house and support/manage litigation while also obtaining a wide degree of experience and responsibility for transactional and operational matters, including vendor contracts, facilities, legal process and HR operations. The position is expected to be located in either our Palo Alto or San Francisco, CA offices, and may require occasional travel to other SVB offices.
The responsibilities of this role will include:
Supporting and managing litigation matters, including employment related matters and general commercial litigation.
Serving as lead attorney supporting SVB's Sourcing and Procurement team, including responsibility for review and negotiation of all outbound vendor contracts, working in conjunction with SVB's internal contracts team and providing oversight of external counsel when necessary.
Serving as lead attorney supporting to SVB's Facilities team, with responsibility for all legal matters relating to SVB's facilities.
Providing support for general HR operations, including advising on policies and procedures, forms of employment agreements, and SVB's benefits programs.
Serving as lead attorney overseeing all legal process matters, including levies, garnishments and subpoenas.
Supporting sales and product teams for certain banking product lines, and advising on the development, revision and negotiation of client agreements as necessary on a timely basis. #LI - 128887066_LH1
The ideal candidate will have:
3-6 years' hands-on employment and general commercial litigation experience at a top-tier law firm;
Familiarity with HR matters including general operations, compensation and benefits;
Excellent critical thinking and analytical legal skills for negotiating general commercial contracts, including mission critical licensing, service and IT agreements.
The ability to learn and adapt quickly; act independently; demonstrate and exercise sound business judgment; and handle new and novel subject matter outside one's traditional expertise;
The flexibility and versatility to provide support on a diverse range of subject matter in an efficient manner;
The ability to work as part of a broader cross-functional team, in a fast-paced, dynamic and geographically diverse environment;
The eagerness and ability to engage proactively, and to issue spot and drive results quickly and efficiently;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
The ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressures;
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and desire to build relationships with critical constituencies;

California bar admission or active member of a U.S. state bar and eligible to register as in-house counsel in California.
