Job Purpose SERMs are independent risk management experts within the independent Global Risk Management (GRM) team, specialised by investment platform, with a broad mandate to provide an independent oversight of all key risks each investment platform may be directly or indirectly exposed to, and to act as the key contact point between the platform and the rest of GRM. Within this mandate, SERMs provide risk assessments on existing and new business, review investment processes, perform liquidity, capacity and performance reviews, and report on significant risk matters to our governance bodies.
The SERM for Multi Assets & TSF conducts oversight over the following areas: - The Multi-Assets part of the Core Investment Platform, split into Total Return & Allocation, Solution Portfolio Management & LDI and Structured Asset Management teams - AXA IM's Trading and Securities Financing (TSF) teams - Responsible Investment team Key Accountabilities Independent risk assessment - Provide the Head of GRM and senior management within the investment platform with an independent view of consolidated risks of the teams under scope: o Across all Investment Teams and relevant subsidiaries o On the entire scope of their risks (i.e., Investment and Operations risks) - Provide an independent assessment of risk / return profile of new funds and mandates - Plan and organise the risk assessment of existing funds and mandates - Identify risk factors of new funds, mandates or investment strategies - Identify and escalate if need be increasing potential risk (e.g. in relation to changes in the macro backdrop)
Investment Platform Target letter agreement/ monitoring - Contribute to the setting of specific annual risk objectives for the Core Investment Platform and TSF department and provide feedback on the platforms' progress against these - Contribute to the setting of specific performance goals relating to the Multi Asset investment teams' Performance Target Letter. Provide a Risk view on the progress of the teams against these objectives, where necessary attending global governance meetings to present the findings Investment processes review - Review investment processes at Investment Team level, assess their consistency with the risk / return profile and propose improvements to the investment platform
Relationship with Investment/management teams - Be the key GRM link with the investment teams and relevant senior management of the Investment Platform - Represent GRM at 1st level control committees/ forums to which the SERM is a participant or attendee - Channel GRM's position on the asset classes under scope at relevant global and local governance committees and boards.
Leadership role within GRM - Provide Operational Risks teams, Investment Risks Analysts and Chief Risk Officers in relevant subsidiaries with high-level insight on key risk areas, mitigation plans, methodologies and frameworks in relation to the scope of assets under oversight by the SERM - Drive risk teams' analysis in coordination with Department Heads or relevant hierarchical managers - Develop and maintain "investment platform understanding" within GRM teams - Be the Global Risk Management contact for regulators and represent Risk in client pitches and due diligence meetings
Qualifications, Experience/Skills and Key Competencies Qualifications
Degree educated, ideally in a subject with a strong financial and/ or quantitative element
Deep knowledge of various investment products and strategies (at least fixed income and equity, with good knowledge of multi asset and LDI a strong plus)
Excellent knowledge of derivatives and the strategies by which they are used within portfolios
Significant experience in the Asset Management industry (ideally seven years plus); previous experience in a hands-on risk role mandatory, while prior experience as an investment manager would be a plus
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, displaying confidence and integrity
Pragmatic outlook to managing risk, balancing the requirement to be independent with the proven ability to work with the first line to achieve solutions in a risk appropriate manner
Ability to learn very quickly and act in a self-sufficient manner
Ability to articulate and present complex issues to a non-expert audience
