The Role Responsibilities
Stay informed of key tax technical changes and developments impacting SC's custody business;
Help manage the migration of CTSU tasks from Singapore to GBS;
Take ownership of migrated tasks;
Maintain a detailed Department Operation Instructions (DOI) for the CTSU team;
Train and develop any further staff added to the team;
Keep the CTSU's stakeholders updated via regular communications;
Document and maintain the requirements to enable our custody clients to obtain reduced rates of withholding tax on their custody asset income;
Work with other custody teams to help them update their process and procedures in relation to tax issues;
Educate operational teams on the difference between "tax advice" and SC's "custody tax services";
Monitor changes in the regulatory environment impacting tax services functions;
Conduct impact analysis of new or changed regulations on existing policies with key stakeholders and implement new or modified internal policies and procedures as a result;
Provide guidance and procedures to assist custody teams with the validation of clients' tax documentation;
Assist custody teams in providing the appropriate tax documentation to clients and sub custodians;
Manage tax related queries with 3rd party agents / custodians;
Support SCB teams on Request for Proposal (RFP) questionnaires related to custody tax services and issues;
Assist SC operational teams in developing procedures and controls on how systems need to be updated for correct withholding tax recording and reporting;
Help resolve client tax documentation and tax data related issues with sub custodians and / or clients;
Maintain a repository of the various tax forms for different markets and information about related processes;
Assist SC operational teams in developing procedures and controls for the storage of tax forms and tax data;
Update the various records and metrics tracking the work and performance of the CTSU team;
Work with the various stakeholders to keep them informed of the progress on BAU matters and note any issues for resolution;
Provide technical training and staff development to members of the team;
Support and provide governance to mitigate risks and improve compliance through ongoing assessment and reviews;
Create and maintain presentations to internal teams and prospective clients about SC's custody tax offering;
Support the roll-out of the "Custody Tax Service Utility" model;
Contributing ideas for improvement on processes, procedures and end-to-end processing;
Manage operational risk appropriately in accordance with Group Policies;
Support the global rollout of "Xceptor Tax Hub" - the strategic software solution to support SC's custody tax service;
Manage and assist in the UAT process of "Xceptor Tax Hub" including writing and managing test scripts;
Support "ad hoc" services provided to premium clients;
Join industry conference calls on tax updates where appropriate;
Assist in hosting conference calls and documenting them appropriately; and
Work with the Management Teams to identify cost savings and efficiency improvements.
Our Ideal Candidate
Experience working in custody tax operations with knowledge on domestic and foreign withholding tax relief and reclaim requirements including filing processes;
Strong knowledge of tax treaty application, capital gains and financial transaction taxes;
Experience in researching tax technical changes and providing summaries suitable to the intended audience;
Experience of Stakeholder Management;
Experience of strong attention to client servicing;
Team player able to work across multiple lines of business with excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
Strong analytical, managerial and people skills;
Highly Proficient in MS Office Applications, especially Excel, Access and Word;
Extensive experience of documenting processes and procedures;
Previous experience in Change Management;
Previous experience in Corporate Actions (Desirable but not essential);
Project Experience ( Desirable but not essential );
Systems Implementation & Testing (Desirable but not essential); and
VBA programming skills (Desirable but not essential).
