Senior Counsel, Global Marketing
Overview: Mastercard is a technology company in the global payments business, connecting cardholders, customers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses worldwide. By leveraging our collective legal and business expertise, the Mastercard legal team helps our business clients, including the Integrated Marketing & Communication (IMC) group, develop innovative technology solutions and programs to grow electronic payments and Mastercard brandshare, affection and preference. IMC is a world class, dynamic organization developing and executing cutting edge marketing, sponsorships and communications strategies and programs globally, in all digital and traditional media as well as experiential channels, to support top global brands, Mastercard and Priceless. Mastercard is searching for a Senior Counsel, preferably with e-commerce, technology, software licensing and general commercial contracts and advertising law experience, to join its Law Department at its headquarters in Purchase, NY to primarily help support a recently acquired e-commerce and experiential offers company and the Priceless Cities global platform . This challenging position reports to the VP, Senior Managing Counsel, Global IMC. Have you worked on a consumer e-commerce platform? Are you comfortable juggling a high volume of contracts and client requests in a fast paced, dynamic, global team environment? Are you a cross-functional team player with excellent business and legal judgment and solutions orientation?
Responsibilities include: (i) advising on our robust B2C e-commerce platform, priceless.com, including scaling to new countries and customers; (ii) structuring, drafting, and negotiating content and technology agreements, including licensing, vendor, partnership and reseller agreements; (iii) reviewing digital marketing and other promotions (including sweepstakes and cause marketing campaigns); (iv) advising business management on the identification and analysis of legal and commercial risks, particularly in the e-commerce space; and (v) assisting with integration of a recently acquired business.
Implement efficiencies in delivering legal service and assist in the creation of training materials and templated forms
Liaise with global, regional and country teams to ensure global consistency, including collaborating with Data Privacy and Intellectual Property teams.
Provide support to the Mastercard global and regional sales teams to support product/service sales initiatives.
Work with internal and external regulatory counsel relating to the impact of local laws and regulations in the consumer protection and cause marketing areas.
Take responsibility for special projects while continuing to handle a steady stream of day-to-day matters.
Manage external counsel within agreed policy and budget
Develop strong relationships with marketing, product development, business, sales, and senior management
May involve occasional travel to California office.
All About You:
Seeking intermediate-level lawyer with excellent e-commerce, technology and commercial contracts drafting and negotiation skills and solid digital marketing law expertise.
Practical business and legal judgment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience directly advising clients on risks, mitigation tactics and solutions.
Self-starter comfortable working in fast pace, collaborative, global work environment.
In-house experience a plus.
A digital/technology mindset preferred
Licensed to practice in New York.
