Key member of the team responsible for a discrete portfolio of corporate clients under the NSW Consumer Segment, within of Westpac Institutional Bank.
The successful candidate will have analytical responsibility for a discrete portfolio of corporate customers, as well as providing analytical support for the on boarding of new to bank customers.
The Business Unit
Industry Analytics & Insights ("IA&I") is responsible for high quality origination and delivery of best-in-class customer and industry insights to differentiate our sales proposition, and portfolio risk management providing robust analysis to support and deliver sustainable great credit decisions, within a wholesale banking environment.
IA&I consists of specialist teams who manage wholesale customers within defined industry verticals and/or sub sector hubs which are structured to optimise industry and customer expertise and insight globally, while embedding decision making and aligning analyst resourcing to appropriate complexity. IA&I is focused on the creation and maintenance of a framework to ensure there is genuine collaboration and information sharing across the Westpac Group and continuous improvement in processes and practices for customer and industry risk management.
There is an opportunity for a Credit Analyst (Senior Associate) with strong credit and interpersonal skills to join the Consumer, Industry Analytics & Insights team.
The primary responsibility of this role is to efficiently manage a portfolio of corporate clients being responsible for the origination process for new transactions and to monitor the health of the portfolio within the Westpac Institutional Bank. The successful candidate would also work extensively with the Head of the Consumer NSW IA&I, Relationship Managers and various Product areas to grow and expand the existing portfolio within the current Risk Framework.
As a research analyst, you are a key provider of independent risk analysis in the origination and evaluation process for the various industry sectors and individual customers. When undertaking analysis, you will also remain alert to the presence of customer revenue opportunities. This will involve close liaison with Relationship Managers, the Product teams and Credit.
Your success in this role will rely on your ability to quickly review, digest and contribute to credit analysis and transaction structuring. In addition, you will need to have strong advocacy skills and be able to influence key decision makers through your demonstrated understanding of both deal specific and industry risks.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Analyst in the team would include:
Ensuring that all aspects of the credit process, including the required due diligence, are properly executed;
Test proposals against approved business and credit strategies, target market acceptance criteria and underwriting standards;
Determine the suitability of proposals, including acceptability of credit risk and structuring for final approval by a Credit Officer; and
Use a strategic vision to provide an overall perspective of the industry sectors and create long term view.
About You - to be successful you will have the following:
At least 3 years' experience in overall wholesale banking credit analysis, ideally with a minimum of 1-year experience in commercial property transactions, including assessment of valuation reports and 'loan to value (LVR)' ratios;
Knowledge of the corporate loan market (terms & conditions, distribution issues, etc.);
Knowledge of the derivative products commonly used by corporate clients;
Strong communication and influencing skills required to manage significant relationships with stakeholders;
Extensive experience applying a risk mindset and commercial acumen;
Strong attention to detail and operational expertise;
Client interaction / relationship management experience would be beneficial.
