We Offer The role is a Hong Kong based Assistant Vice President legal position within the APAC Credit & Investment Solutions (CIS) team that is part of the General Counsel function. The CIS team, which currently consists of four lawyers, provides legal support to the APAC division in relation to structured finance and derivatives matters. Coverage includes areas such as credit and equity derivatives, total return swaps, off-balance sheet structured notes, proprietary indices, index-linked products, structured investment funds, asset finance, capital relief transactions and alternative investments.
The successful lawyer's responsibilities will include:
Advising the APAC Structured Credit, Asset Finance and Investment Solutions businesses on all legal matters, including reviewing and drafting documentation, advising on structuring, legal and regulatory matters and general transaction management
Engaging with front office personnel on the conception, development and execution of all products
Instructing and managing external counsel
Advising on internal policies and training in collaboration with other relevant partners
Acting as legal adviser on certain internal committees and actively participating in working groups for matters relevant to the APAC division
Advising on industry documentation and regulatory reforms including participation in relevant industry groups (i.e., ISDA DC, etc.)
Having regard to suitability, reputational risk, cross-border, regulatory requirements and risk disclosure
Developing expertise with a number of internal systems relating to the transaction lifecycle
You Offer Qualifications:
You have a consistent record of excellent academic achievement.
You are an England & Wales (or similar common law jurisdiction) qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience.
You have private practice experience with a leading law firm or in-house experience with a leading financial institution.
You have experience with any of the following areas will be regarded favorably:
(i) derivatives products, in particular credit and equity derivatives
(ii) off-balance sheet structured finance transactions
(iii) lending and debt capital markets products
You are experienced in taking care of industry-standard OTC documentation (i.e., ISDA, GMRA, etc.) and related collateral, clearing and netting arrangements.
Your financial regulatory experience is desirable.
Fluency in English (proficiency in Mandarin desirable but not required)
You have a genuine interest in structured finance and derivatives.
You are a dedicated, motivated, hard-working individual with strong professional skills.
You have the skill and judgement to identify relevant issues and resolve them in an appropriate and timely manner.
You are an organized and diligent person with a disciplined approach.
You are able to work closely and in partnership with front office, legal colleagues and other meaningful partners.
