The Tailored Underwriting VP, SVB Private Bank, is an internal sales role responsible for underwriting and managing complex tailored loans within the Private Bank portfolio. Additionally, this role is seen as a senior member of the Tailored Underwriting team, and is responsible for contributing to the ongoing mentoring and training of junior team members. This individual works collaboratively with the Relationship Management and Credit Solutions teams to deliver on complex client solutions for a seamless client experience.
The Tailored Underwriting VP will have underwriting experience with a variety of credit products, including partner lines of credit, private stock loans, secured and unsecured debt, securities-backed loans and will take the lead on underwriting other custom credit solutions. The individual will also have a strong working knowledge of traditional private banking suite of solutions, including: deposit, residential mortgage and general financial planning.
Additionally, this individual will have experience with the venture, private equity and technology entrepreneur community - and of the unique financial challenges that confront founders, executives and investors in this space. To that end, the Tailored Underwriting VP should have a strong understanding of venture/private equity investment cycles, fund structure and mechanics, executive compensation, equity compensations, M&A, IPO, fund raising, and company exits or liquidity events. The Tailored Underwriting VP will report to, and work closely with, the Private Bank's Head of Underwriting and Portfolio Management on projects that streamline and improve the Private Bank's onboarding, underwriting, documentation and ongoing portfolio management activities.
Additionally, the Tailored Underwriting VP will be responsible for mentoring and training junior team members including Underwriting Associates, Portfolio Management Analysts and Associate Development Program (ADP) participants. This individual will be a key contributor to developing and updating training materials and sessions for the Associate Development Program, and will be an active participant in ensuring the Private Bank ADP rotation is one of mutual benefit for the PB and rotating ADPers.
The individual will also work closely with the Private Bank's Credit Specialist and Credit Solutions VPs to ensure accuracy of underwriting and loan documentation, as well as ongoing portfolio management of complex and adverse credit situations.
Advise, position, structure, underwrite, execute, and manage sophisticated, tailored credit facilities internally and with the Bank's Credit Organization.
Responsible for underwriting complex credits and submitting concept and underwriting package to Credit Risk Administration, in collaboration with the Credit Solutions VPs.
Mentor and train junior team members.
Work with internal and outside counsel and SVB documentation team to work through loan structures, and drafting of loan documents.

Experience working with high-net worth individuals.
Highly-organized and proactive.
Strong understanding of the venture/private equity and innovation ecosystem.
Sense of urgency, and works well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Bachelor degree or higher.
5 - 10 years of experience across sales/business development, relationship management, and credit underwriting in a private banking environment.
Extensive experience with tailored and custom credit solutions.
