The role of Corporate Communications in APAC encompasses media relations, employee communications, thought leadership, public affairs and issues management. The team works to promote and protect two of the firm's most important assets: its reputation and its culture. Responsibilities include projecting BlackRock's brand, products and services to clients and prospects through the media and working with investment professionals to promote our investment capabilities. Corporate Communications serves a critical function in raising BlackRock's awareness and brand profile both internally and externally.
The role is responsible for supporting the Australian business and the Global Corporate Communications team in planning and implementing communications initiatives and campaigns for BlackRock in Australia. The candidate will work closely with members of the Australian Business Heads and Corporate Communications team, and drive the corporate communications agenda in Australia. The candidate should also be able to proactively drive media campaigns as required and grow BlackRock's 'Share of Voice' and 'Engagement' in the targeted media. He/she will also provide support for other corporate communications initiatives including brand/issues management, public affairs programs etc.
The successful individual will report to APAC Head of Corporate Communications and locally to Country Head of Australia.
Develop Corporate Communications strategy for BlackRock Australia.
Develop a narrative and differentiated messaging for the firm and its retail, institutional and iShares businesses in Australia.
Drive thought leadership program to raise BlackRock's brand awareness and profile the firm's investment authority in the local market.
Develop, foster and maintain strong working relationships with business/financial and trade media (print/broadcast/web/social) in Australia.
Handle and field all external media inquiries in a timely and efficient manner
Develop ideas for press interview and article placement opportunities and implement them
Coordinate with the local PR agency and other third party vendors in planning and organizing media events, round tables, press conferences and educational seminars
Develop a full range of press materials and briefing documents for our spokespeople.
Develop strong connectivity with key internal stakeholders in Australia, Asia Pacific and globally.
Keep track of media outcomes and respective measurements
Develop deep knowledge of BlackRock and its services and products
Brand & Reputation Management
Identify corporate issues and develop communications plan or playbooks to protect the firm's reputation
Develop issues messaging and positioning strategies
Collaborate with global and regional Communications team in managing issues and crisis communications
Manage brand and visual identity to ensure the BlackRock brand is clearly and consistently communicated internally and externally in all related activities
Regulatory Issues Management
Work with APAC Communications team and local Legal & Compliance team to develop messaging around regulatory issues
Drive and support relevant employee communications in collaboration with local business channels, Human Resources, employee networking groups and APAC Corporate Communications team
Experience and Qualifications:
Graduate or equivalent with communications, business/finance, journalism or marketing qualification
A minimum of 10 years of solid media relations experience in the financial industry and/or PR agency. Knowledge of mutual funds and ETFs are essential
A mature, independent achiever
An energetic team player and a driven self-starter, with a positive mindset and excellent work ethic
Ability to multitask and operate with flexibility in a fast-paced environment to meet tight timelines
Strong project management skills and attention to details
Excellent command of English writing skills
Strong ability to build relationships with the businesses and journalists and within the global corporate communications team
Ability to work effectively in a matrix reporting environment – adaptable, reliable with a strong 'can do attitude'
Experience in brand and reputation management and crisis management a plus
