Overview: The Franchise organization represents the foundation of Mastercard's business growth. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining the structure and environment for customers to operate their payments and/or technology business (i.e. issuing, acquiring, processing, etc.) leveraging the global reach and strength of Mastercard's brand and robust network.
The Senior Counsel will provide support to the Global Lead Counsel, who has overall responsibility for providing legal expertise and guidance supporting the following Franchise business units which are based both in the center and across the five Mastercard regions: Franchise Core; Franchise Innovation; Franchise Customer Engagement and Performance; Franchise Dispute Resolution Management; Franchise Architecture & Standards, as well as Public Policy, Compliance and New Customer Types (primarily corporations, governments and merchants). The candidate must demonstrate sound business and legal judgment, thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a diverse workload, and have a proven track record of providing pragmatic and proactive legal advice.
Role: oCoordinate efforts with legal colleagues throughout the company (e.g. product, sales, regulatory, litigation, etc.) oEnsure strong communication/collaboration with Regional Counsel teams Provide guidance around Mastercard's standards/requirements (e.g., rules interpretation/compliance, modifications to existing rules, creation of new rules, etc.) oUnderstand the effects of regulation on our Franchise and how the rules have evolved to manage the effects while maintaining a globally interoperable system oProvide legal support for customer compliance enforcement actions oSupport for the licensing/customer onboarding process oSupport various initiatives across the Franchise business units referenced above oProvide some legal support to Public Policy, Compliance and new customer types oOther general support for Franchise Global Lead Counsel
All About You: oLaw degree from a top-tier university oProfessional experience in general legal matters in a reputable international law firm and/or as in-house lawyer for a multinational company, preferably in the financial services, banking or technology sector; Experience/knowledge of franchise management and operations a plus oMust be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization oShould have a positive "can-do" attitude, be stress-resistant and ready to go the extra mile oMust be thorough, meticulous and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize matters oShould exercise good judgment, be solutions-oriented and have a creative approach to problem-solving
