Overview of the Department: The Emerging Markets team is responsible for origination and relationship coverage for Sovereign/ State Owned Enterprises, Corporate and DFI clients across the following key jurisdictions: Africa, Russia/ CEE and Central Asia.
This proposed role sits within the Africa team, where the bank is seeking to expand its coverage generally, especially in the Francophone countries.
Main purpose of the role:
The Associate will play a central role in providing relationship management support to client-facing Relationship Managers on the Africa Desk, within the Emerging Markets team. The role will be critical in supporting Francophone coverage and expansion of MUFG transactional activity in the region. As a member of the Emerging Markets Corporate Banking team, the Associate will be responsible for ensuring that MUFG clients receive exceptional service throughout the life of financing transactions, in accord with all relevant internal and regulatory processes, guidelines and standards
Origination & Marketing: Support Relationship Managers originate all MUFG banking products and services. Work jointly with the product teams including Syndications, Capital markets, Structured Finance, Derivatives, etc.
Manage day to day client interactions. Regularly engage with clients at a counterpart level to support the successful conclusion of transactions and execute selected deals. Use knowledge gained through direct client contact to contribute to overall development of client relationship.
Marketing Support and Credit: Relationship management duties in support of senior relationship managers - preparing client proposals and presentations. Credit support: deal screening materials, returns, credit memo. Support line manager in gathering market, country intelligence and target client research.
Structuring and Execution/ Negotiations: Provide support with internal / external legal teams, product teams, borrowers and other stakeholders to support structuring negotiation and timely execution of the documentation to a consistently high standard, reflecting MUFG's preferred position as much as possible.
Compliance Coordination: Engage regularly with Compliance/ Financial Crime team to screen all transactional activity on the desk in a detailed and prudent manner.
Pre- and post-signing administration to ensure smooth execution of all the Transactional documentation and ensuring all relevant middle/ back office colleagues are informed in a timely manner.
Provide general support to the Team Head, as required from time to time, including the preparation/ update of strategy papers, financial data and planning related activities
Country risk understanding is essential
Experience/Understanding of structured products (risk mitigation) would be valuable
Skills and experience:
Strong Verbal and Written French skills essential.
Basic awareness of corporate and investment banking products, with a focus on Syndicated Lending, Structured Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Derivatives, ECA Finance, Project Finance, and Trade finance.
Good risk skills – country, credit, ability to grasp key compliance risks.
A can-do attitude, ability to learn new products and strong interpersonal skills are absolutely critical.
Demonstrate commercial acumen, results-oriented
Knowledge of current affairs and interest in emerging markets developments.
Computer literacy, including core Microsoft modules e.g. Excel / PowerPoint
