Our Capital Markets team consists of 80 investment professionals providing access to Total Fund exposures to standard asset classes and generating improved investment performance through liquid systemic and discretionary strategies across markets by drawing on our cross asset-class expertise and extensive market relationships. We are also responsible for external manager allocations which allows us to deliver liquid market returns that are uncorrelated to other asset classes, adding real
diversification to our larger investment portfolio. Additionally, our team manages a centralized trade function that allows the Total Fund to focus on the needs of today's more sophisticated global trading environment with a focus on adding value through execution and managing increasing regulatory complexity.
The Quantitative Strategies & Research team consists of 14 investment professionals responsible for executing on an innovative approach to data acquisition and analytics, systematic strategy design, portfolio construction and investment process advances that support the Capital Markets and Total Fund strategy.
What you'll do
Build a future-focused QSR strategy
Develop, execute and maintain the strategy and vision for the QSR team
Focus on achieving success for all QSR activities including development of infrastructure to support strategic objectives, implementation of key strategies, and identification of systems and talent required to execute on the strategy
Share insights with the team on how to apply alternative data sets, innovative technologies and big data
Develop a structure and model to align team members to deliver on this strategy; utilize resources efficiently and use all possible sources of alignment
Focused on creative ideas from driving research, new data, planning for where technology goes to build the infrastructure
Actively collaborate with teams across Capital Markets to manage and contribute to successful value-add
Member of the Capital Markets Leadership team, partnering with senior leaders to provide insights and inputs into decision making, own and cascade the execution of decisions with the QSR team
Lead communication on behalf of the team across the fund on strategy and ongoing activities
Focus on Value Creation
Drive, own and lead key investment decisions and creative solutions through the review of daily group and department value added, risk analysis, examining relevant market and company information to set direction for investment strategies
Encourages and combines multiple strategies for risk taking with advanced portfolio construction techniques across a global and dynamic landscape
Be an inspiring leader for the fund and find opportunities to create value in new and unexplored territory
Partners with senior leadership in portfolio construction considering longer-term Capital Markets risk-return trade-offs, risk return balance and track record
Develops an understanding and collaborates with other asset classes to manage Total Fund return and risk within the all-weather framework
Sets overarching objectives and priorities, balancing short- and long-term priorities and holds team accountable
Fully leverages team and adds value strategically
Upholds and champions principles of good governance
Manage QSR and development/oversight of enhancements
Build a scalable pool for total fund allocation
Collaborate with quantitative risk takers across teams, and ensure we have the right alignment of research and model development with value-add, right return on investment and expectation of strategy returns
Lead diligence/research processes
Handle data through models, deriving signals, while bringing insights and driving advanced execution analytics
Foster the collaboration across the full Capital Markets team to build infrastructure support
Manage all technology and embedded resources
Ensure effective governance, including decision rights, policies, procedures and controls
Be the ambassador for QSR
Share innovative ideas for risk taking to optimize resources allocation to maximize success globally
Represent both internally and externally as the department's subject matter expert for Ontario Teacher's
Provide advice to MDs on QSR
Ensure cross-collaboration across to share knowledge and support the overall Capital Markets strategy
Coach and develop team members
Build a long-term strategy for the team required to deliver on the QSR business strategy
Create a cohesive team culture that is aligned and embedded into the broader Capital Markets team
Build and develop expertise across the team to enhance risk taking and deliver on QSR strategy
Understand career paths and motivators for quantitative team and support in their career development
Drive plans to develop talent, including career and succession planning, and cross-training
Participate in investment planning and resource allocation
What you'll need
Master's and/or PhD in Economics, Finance, Investment Management, Engineering or a related field
Minimum 10 years' experience in systematic portfolio construction, risk budgeting, performance analysis and investment process design with a proven track record
Minimum 5 years' experience utilizing quantitative research techniques
Deep understanding of the complexity and sophistication of the competitive landscape in global markets
Experience with macro strategies and trading
Ability and experience to lead a team of seasoned investment professionals using the skillset of the group to produce a meaningful impact to the investment performance
Strong communication skills written and verbal
Ability to travel as required
Ability to communicate in English (written and spoken)
What we're offering
Salary Range: $250,000-$260,000
