Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.
We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Chief Operating Officer, COO Legal, Asia Pacific .
Provide independent perspective, commercial insight and challenge to the Asia Pacific (ASP) General Counsel (GC) and leadership team in respect to financial management and budgetary control (both external Legal spend and Direct costs)
Manage front line financial control, including internal and external cost approvals for ASP.
Support the ASP General Counsel with headcount management, hiring approvals and organisational design optimisation.
Provide Management Information and Reporting of costs and headcount (actuals and forecasts) with insightful commentary and analysis for the ASP GC and the Global Legal Chief Operating Officer - including presenting the Monthly GC dashboard to the ASP GC and the Global Legal Chief Operating Officer.
Act as an initial point of contact on all operational matters for the department, minimising administrative overheads for lawyers.
Be a trusted advisor to the ASP GC.
To be a valued contributor to a network of Legal Business Management peers - working with the Global Legal COO to share best practices and drives global and functional consistency where appropriate.
Strong advocate of the Global Legal COO function and developer of team members - promoting their skills and providing them with regional context.
To be a respected customer of the functional business partners (Finance, Procurement, HR, ISR etc.)
To be a member of Global Legal Chief Operating Officer's Monthly Operations Committee as the Regional COO representative for ASP.
Support and drive the transformation of the ASP Legal function through efficiencies, innovation and special projects.
Strong experience of meeting with and presenting to senior management, and preferably also senior external contacts i.e. external law firms and suppliers.
Significant financial and headcount management experience (preferably at HSBC).
Significant project, operational and people management experience (preferably at HSBC).
Continuous improvement and change management experience.
Deep understanding of HSBC organization, design and coordination of processes, and stakeholder management
Ability to manage upwards and downwards effectively.
Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to project authority, negotiate effectively and influence others.
Excellent time and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple outputs simultaneously.
Ability to work in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.
Ability to critically review a wide variety of documents (i.e. both quantitative and qualitative data)
Excellent financial acumen and ability to present complex financial information to senior stakeholders.
