S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a Data Scientist / Quantitative Analyst to join our Quantamental Research team. This Director level position is located in New York or Boston and is for a Alternative Data Validation Specialist within the S&P Global Market Intelligence's Quantamental Research Group, reporting to a Senior Director of Research.
The Quantamental research group validates new content sets that inform on the investment management process, and uses those datasets to conduct innovative, industry leading investment research. New content sets develop into sellable products, as well as fuel research projects that become the basis for in-depth client interaction. This role will primarily focus on validating new content sets, but will include opportunities to conduct original research and interact with clients.
The Impact: Alternative datasets have become valuable and sought-after assets that fuel insightful models and processes. While many models are focused on investment management applications, use cases are becoming more prevalent within investment banking, private equity, insurance, and non-financial corporates.
The data validation role involves positing and evaluating use cases for available content, working with other teams to clean and link records to a common set of identifiers, and back-testing economic hypotheses. These efforts will be documented and shared internally with senior leadership, to help facilitate important business decisions and build new products.
Additionally, the data validation specialist will often become the first internal expert on a new content set and may use the data to conduct original research. The results are then thoroughly documented and often featured in top-tier media publications. Insights and solutions may also be communicated via industry events, webinars, and face to face meetings with institutional investment practitioners.
The Career Opportunity: You will face interesting challenges and be counted on to creatively determine how best to get your job done. You must value the free exchange of ideas, solicit critical feedback to make your work better, and, above all, find the best solution to the challenge at hand. Along with a keen analytical mind and strong technical skills, you are an excellent communicator. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong character, integrity and respect for others.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the investment management process and what IM firms are seeking from a content set, as well as experience or knowledge of alternative data. The candidate will need to be able to analyze big datasets and should have some familiarity with SQL, R, and/or Python. In addition, candidates should be able to work well in a team, as well as execute independently.
Evaluate leading-edge and in-demand content sets and use results to help senior leadership make vital business decisions.
