Change recruitment are working with a FS business based in Glasgow who have a newly created position for a trainee actuary and are looking for experience from a few years to several. The individual would be joining the Financial and Insurance Risk team, reporting to the Head of Financial Risk. This role provides a rare opportunity for an actuarial student to gain experience working across the breadth of the lifecycle of a firm, develop a broad range of actuarial skills and working with senior individuals.
The main products offered are with-profits whole of life policies and endowment assurances, term assurance / protection products, and unit-linked products such as pensions and ISAs.
The company has grown rapidly in recent years and expects to complete the transfer of a further block of business by end-2019., resulting in the firm's AUM doubling.
About the role:
- Responsibility for completing the annual ORSA submission. This will include selecting and calibrating the stress and scenario testing to be performed, developing the Pillar 2 methodology, analysing the results and writing the narrative. - Leading the development of stress testing for Climate Change risk within the ORSA, and developing Climate Change risk into the risk management framework and risk management systems. - Undertaking regular recurring risk reviews into a wide variety of areas across the business - including the pricing framework, with-profits management, capital management, assumptions and methodology underlying technical provisions, business and strategic planning; - Undertaking non-recurring risk reviews into specific areas / issues as they arise - including possible acquisitions, new products/partners, major systems / model changes, proposed ALM or capital optimisation initiatives; - Assisting with regular production of Board and other Committee reports; - Reviewing Risk MI packs and making strategic recommendations on how to align with risk policies and risk framework.
This role will involve working closely with other senior individuals in the organisation such as the Chief Actuary, With-Profits Actuary, Chief Financial Officer and Commercial Director.
Skills & Experience:
My client is seeking a bright and highly motivated actuarial student who is looking for an opportunity to learn and develop in this exciting role. The right candidate will be fully supported in developing into the role.
The following skills and experience are essential for this role:
- Part qualified actuarial student, with a track record of exam progression (although exam- stoppers will be considered). - At least two years working experience working in a life insurer or consultancy environment. - Individual must be highly organised, conscientious and self-motivated. - Individual must be capable of working independently and applying judgement. - The individual must be good at working in a team environment, and also in building relationships with stakeholders from a variety of different backgrounds. - Outstanding communication skills - both verbal and written - are essential for this role. - Enthusiasm and curiosity for learning new skills and developing an understanding of the wider commercial environment.
The following skills and experience would be preferable:
- Experience of with-profits products or with-profits management. - Experience of unit-linked products or unit-linked management. - Experience of working within a Risk department, or in a role which has involved performing independent review and challenge (such as external / internal audit). - Experience of working in financial reporting, capital reporting or pricing.
