The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) supports the Legal department's delivery of legal services through an application of legal and other professional disciplines. The OGC organizes itself around five main groups including; Strategic Initiatives, Legal Organizational Strategy, Legal Solutions/Operations/Data, Legal Relationship Skills, and Control Management/Third Party Oversight and Office of Legal Obligations Mapping. The OGC team sets standards for the department's centralized processes and controls, delivers tools to improve efficiency, and drives the change agenda within Legal. Among the OGC's main areas of focus is bringing data, technology, innovation and legal knowledge to the members of the global Legal department.
Documentation is an important area of focus by the Legal Department and the firm as a whole due to external factors such as legal and regulatory risk and client experience, and internal factors such as efficiency and consistency in our document strategy. Within the OGC, the Legal Documentation Strategy team has designed a program, called the Client Facing Documents Program (CFD), to facilitate attorneys performing a periodic, risk adjusted review of JPMC client facing documentation. The OGC Project Manager will be responsible for leading the implementation of the CFD Program within the Legal department, with a focus on supporting the regional aspects of the program and the attorneys in APAC. The position will report to the head of the CFD Program in NY, with local accountability into the APAC Legal management reporting line.
In addition to supporting the regional implementation and support of the new legal documentation processes, this candidate will also be responsible for supporting the APAC Legal Department on other strategic initiatives led by the OGC, such as Legal Learning, Outside Counsel Value Management, Office of Legal Obligations, and others.
Broadly, the responsibilities will include; (a) collaborating with APAC key points of contact on plans for implementing new processes in APAC, along with training and support, (b) executing program governance and change management activities, and ensuring sustainability, (c) coordinating Legal projects closely with other firm-wide strategy initiatives as they evolve, (d) ensuring APAC processes and standards are aligned with JPMC standards, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
This work will involve gathering and organizing data, developing project plans and tracking progress, interacting with members of the Legal Department, Technology and Business Operations across lines of business and support functions, and identifying and researching available tools to improve processes.
Due to the nature of the role, a highly adaptable self-starter with strong organizational skills, deep project management experience (i.e. the ability to meet deadlines), data analysis skills, and excellent presentation and communication skills would excel in this role. The successful candidate must also demonstrate confidence expressing views clearly to a wide range of constituents at all levels and in various different roles within the JPMC organization.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Serve as a thought leader and design tactical and strategic solutions respective to implementing new Legal Department processes in APAC
Manage day-to-day operational aspects of implementing a new system and various new documentation related processes
Measure, track and benchmark progress/performance against established goals on an ongoing basis
Deliver timely, fact based information about the progress of key initiatives. Navigate and facilitate information flow/messaging amongst team and with other groups within Legal and at the firm
Liaise extensively with members across the Legal department, line of business functional teams, and firmwide strategic programs. Drive and facilitate discussions and activities across teams to ensure a coordinated effort
Develop clear and concise reports and presentation materials, with actionable recommendations that drive continuous improvement in business process control function effectiveness, to be shared with senior management and other relevant stakeholders
Articulate required capabilities to support processes and controls, including for the evaluation and development of supporting technology
Facilitate continuous improvement by harvesting lessons learned and identifying reuse opportunities
Analyze large amounts of information and pulling out key messages
Assist with other Legal Department project and priorities, as needed, and at the direction of APAC Legal Management.
Bachelor's Degree required
7+ years of experience working with key cross-functional groups in a complex line of business, implementing multifaceted and new procedures, processes and systems
Experience managing staff; experience managing remotely is a plus
Familiarity with developing and documenting processes and procedures
Highly proficient in MS Excel (pivot table and data manipulation, lookup/index/match functions, etc.), MS PowerPoint is required. Visio / process mapping and Sharepoint experience is preferred
Strong analytic and questioning skills and ability to distill large amounts of information into key messages
Superior communication skills required to provide status to key audience in a concise, informative and timely manner
Superior organization skills, strong attention-to-detail, independent, adaptable, self-motivated
Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
Ability to effectively partner with all levels of management across a diverse set of functions, locations and business. Exceptional interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills
