The Sr Manager Architect for Big data leads a team of Technical Architects responsible for managing architectural standards, patterns and frameworks for Big data, Data warehousing, Reporting and Analytics in the Bank. This primarily includes the oversight of the architecture of the Big data, Data Warehousing & Reporting/Analytical platforms and evangelizing standardized patterns and practices used by teams on these platforms.
The candidate must have deep skills in the domain of big data, enterprise data reporting and warehousing and at home with high scale complexity and deep & wide data stores. The candidate must also be highly capable of identifying capability gaps and defining strategic solutions to support a variety of business needs and be able to deliver quick successes through strong relationships with senior members in both business and technology.
This role also works extremely closely with the Bank's emerging new technologies (e.g. Cloud) for analytics platform. The architecture of the Bank's Big data, data warehouse, reporting and analytical platform is backed by a collection of modern technologies and the successful applicant will demonstrate a keen understanding, knowledge and experience in similar technology sets.
The candidate should also have a history of hands-on technical know-how, a critical thinking approach to problem-solving, a sense of urgency and commercial acumen regarding delivery, and exhibit the initiative to identify challenges and solutions independently. Experience in building support and rapport with business and technology communities to drive substantial outcomes will be highly regarded.
As a people manager the candidate should have experience in developing and managing a team of IT Architects / technology professionals and clearly define and communicate objectives and accountabilities to team members and continually look for ways to provide and enhance the value that is delivered to business / internal partners
The accountabilities for the role include but are not limited to the following:
Ensure smooth operational implementation of systems projects and other initiatives planned and in process in the technology design and development area and ensure appropriate resources are assigned to strategic initiatives
Define and establish goals and evaluate results, provide technical, procedure and service coaching and training and coordinate ongoing staff development
Develop technology roadmaps and associated plans
Monitor and report the status of the projects and applications within assigned portfolio to ensure alignment with the strategic direction of TD as well as industry standards and best practices
Define and evolve the architecture for the bank's suite of data management, data warehousing, reporting, and analytical platforms, including the definition of roadmaps
Identify and drive key technology investments to remediate technology and process gaps
Evolve technology platforms that provide data management, processing, warehousing, reporting, and analytical capabilities
Review & Develop solutions architecture artefacts and guide design teams for reducing technical challenges and mitigating risks
Manage proof-of-concepts for bridging gaps in solutions and for adopting new technologies
Contribute to project plan development, offer input, manage projects and initiatives, direct assigned resources, communicate project status and ensure timely issue escalation.
Establish and enforce standards for data integration, reporting, and analytical patterns.
Impart subject matter expertise to influence vendors on product design, develop and contribute to third-party contract negotiations where applicable.
Build consensus, facilitate collaboration and decision-making within and across business units so IT strategy application aligns with architecture framework.
Ensure projects comply with technology domain architecture, design and operate processes to help review ongoing activity against technology architecture and development standards.
Prioritize and balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards the strategic vision
Work directly with project teams to help deliver solutions that increase business results while ensuring TD's architecture and technology objectives are met
Partner with delivery teams to materially impact and influence TD's enterprise technology and architecture objectives
History of making an impact, developing and executing on strategies and delivering superior results in both the short and long term. Additional requirements but not limited to are:
Experience in the development of Data Warehouse or Analytics Technology Solutions
Experience with the following tasks in the context of Distributed Data Analytics:
Implementation of ETL applications
Implementation of reporting applications
Application/implementation of custom analytics
Implementation of relational databases
Data migration from existing data stores
Knowledge of Cloud-based data reporting and analytics services
Exhibits comfort and maintains composure with audiences at all levels
Uses effective listening skills to gain clarification from others.
Uses knowledge of formal and informal policies and organizational interconnections to effectively navigate boundaries
Build effective relationships with peers across the organization
Able to manage effectively in a highly matrixed environment.
Capable of grasping and challenging low level technical assumptions.
Strong communicator: excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
Given the distributed nature of our team travel may be required
Education and Accreditation
University or post-graduate degree; the ideal candidate will have a strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)
