The Database Administrator (DBA) performs data analysis and maintenance activities to proactively address the Bank's needs for the identification, classification, modeling, storing, and accessing of information. The DBA assists in creation, implementation/installation, configuration, change, and support of data models, databases, data marts, data warehouses. Administers and documents data backup and recovery plans, capacity plans and security plans. The DBA assists in planning and participates in tests for new products and data technology releases to ensure features and functions are acceptable and integrated across systems software and platforms. The DBA proactively investigates/troubleshoots database, technical and systems problems and directs/assures corrective action.
As a Database Administrator at BMO, here's what you will do:
You will perform technical, analytical and professional services involving program & member services, evaluations, database-driven Web sites, and office operations.
You will interact with key stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers.
You will break down business requirements, and translate them into detailed data design specifications
You will design and implement methods to store, organize, and present data, as well as automate data operations.
You will design and implement security measures, maintenance, and backup plans for databases
You will build data solutions that utilize the enterprise monitoring/logging, and require minimal to zero maintenance, or programmer, DBA, or Operations intervention to perform standard business maintenance/configuration.
Database Administrator Co-op opportunities are available in our Toronto, Scarborough and Barrie offices.
Qualifications What makes you a great fit?
You're Tech Savvy, currently pursuing post-secondary education in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Math, and available for a Winter 2020 work term
You have basic knowledge of the project management processes, documentation, or audit and signoff authorities
You have a basic understanding of a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and can apply principles from the "analysis" phases of the SDLC.
You like to solve complex problems. Analytical skills, with the ability to organize and disseminate large amounts of information with accuracy is important.
You have applied knowledge of one or more analysis and problem decomposition techniques, and root cause analysis.
You're a continuous learner. You're alert to new data visualization, insights, and analytics tools, techniques, and trends, and think about new ways to apply them.
You can demonstrate writing and documentation skills.
A high level knowledge of the ITIL Processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management) is an asset.
