About the Role
We are looking for a talented people person to join the growing Talent Team. As Portfolio Talent Manager you will work with early stage companies across a range of sectors and geographies to help leaders reach their full potential by supporting the growth of their teams. You will serve as both an expert in the functional area, but also as a partner, knowing that not one company or culture is the same, though there are common challenges when scaling a team.
The Talent Team is on a mission to help pioneers bring their visions to life through the lens of talent. You will be joining our 3 person team to work with companies across the UK and US. Beyond your advisory role, you will find ways to leverage the network of employees and executives such that they can learn from one another, and perhaps develop new ideas together.
Providing talent support to our companies is important now and will be in the future. As a part of this role you will be responsible for operationalizing the way that we work with companies, allowing the function to scale with the portfolio, continuously improve, and ultimately last beyond your time in the role:
What you will do:
Partner with Founders and Investors to successfully complete several engagements with portfolio companies, serving as the talent expert and driving high impact in startups
Develop trainings and materials for common talent needs that can be used in the short and long term, including:
Lead the UK event planning and execution, testing and trailing different event types and ultimately delivering a proposal for long term event strategy
Collaborate with the Talent Team and Octopus Ventures team to identify opportunities to improve talent across the Octopus Portfolio
Be a go-to expert for portfolio companies and investment team alike

Talent management at a rapidly growing technology startup or venture capital house, and/or innovative growth digital technology company in the UK or Europe
Experience as a business partner and thought leader to venture backed management teams who has demonstrated traction solving core business and operational objectives through people strategies and initiatives
Project management and organisation skills to handle multiple projects (small and large) with conflicting priorities and deliver projects on time with excellence
Demonstrated data analytics capabilities with the ability to identify insights, alternative solutions and recommendations
