We are looking for a talented and passionate junior Economist to provide timely, high-quality quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on banking sector developments and risks in selected emerging market countries. The Banking Risk Economist will be able to work largely independently under the loose supervision of the Banking Risk Service (BRS) Manager
Monitor and assess risks in selected emerging Europe banking sectors.
Ability to confidently counsel clients on emerging market banking sector risks and develop strong presentation skills.
Cultivate deep expertise in the banking sectors of assigned countries via research, event attendance, and networking.
Monitor emerging trends in the global financial sector regulation and financial crisis research.
Be the in-house expert on the emerging Europe banking sectors under coverage
Independently monitor regional and global financial news on a daily basis, producing short write-ups under tight deadlines
Regularly update banking sector reports according to agreed deadlines, meeting quality and quantity requirements.
Evaluate and compare banking sector risks using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Monitor, analyze, and forecast banking sector specific datasets.
Respond to client requests for information on banking sector developments in-person, via e-mail, and through PowerPoint presentations as required
Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of historical financial crises; the role, structure, and operations of banking sectors; and macroeconomic theory.
First or Upper Second Class degree in Economics, or involving economics as its highest weighted component
A real enthusiasm for economics and strong desire to forge a professional career as an economist
Self-motivation and application
Excellent English writing and speaking skills
Excellent analytical skills
Good communication skills
Excellent IT skills
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite
Experience with direct relevance to Emerging Europe, North Africa, West African or other emerging market countries preferred.
Postgraduate qualification in Economics or related subject
Qualifications exhibiting a high degree of mathematical and/or report writing capabilities
Formal report-writing training
