Business Unit Overview
BlackRock's Strategic Product Management (SPM) group's mandate is to drive organic revenue growth by enhancing innovation and product development and by bringing strategic discipline and insight to the products we offer our clients. SPM is tasked with ensuring that BlackRock has an industry-leading product set to support our clients' needs and the firm's growth aspirations in all market environments. SPM partners closely with the various Investment Strategies Groups and Client Businesses to achieve the firm's goals and objectives.
The functions of SPM include:
Developing and defining a clear product strategy for the firm based on varying time horizons reflecting the lifecycles of markets, client needs, and products
Enabling and cultivating a robust pipeline of innovative solutions for our clients that can competitively differentiate the firm and enhance its prospects for growth
Providing objective, rational analysis of each product's strengths and weaknesses to enable optimal decision making
Eliminating unprofitable and non-strategic products from the line-up so the firm can focus on the things that really matter to our clients
Managing a rigorous and globally consistent product development process to ensure every new product is of the highest quality and consistent with the firm's principles
Aligning the firm's resources behind BlackRock's key product priorities and serving as a critical connector of the firm's business units while driving decision making
Scope of the role
We are seeking a high caliber and experienced individual to lead Product Strategy, Product Development and Product Maintenance activities in respect of BlackRock's Korean business. The position is based in Seoul and will report to the Head of SPM Asia ex Japan based in Hong Kong. The role would primarily focus on the Korean business but will have the opportunity to contribute to broader APAC and global initiatives. This is an important role to enable the ongoing growth of our platform in Korea by delivering the best of BlackRock to our clients.
Key responsibilities include:
Understand evolving markets and industry trends to inform ideation
Stay abreast of regulatory and other structural trends so as to identify upcoming threats and opportunities and ensure that both new and existing products are in compliance with regulatory requirements
Acquire a knowledge of BlackRock's investment and advisory capabilities
Create, evolve and deliver a strategic product roadmap for the Korean business, in partnership with distribution and investment teams
Design new, innovative, industry-leading investment products in partnership with investment, distribution and operational teams
Assess Korea's onshore and offshore product offering alongside competitors and markets to inform consideration of ongoing suitability, and trigger discussion
Deliver the end-to-end product development process, leveraging BlackRock's global framework
Connect with APAC and broader global SPM team to share ideas and collaborate on platform wide initiatives
An important and highly visible role in a fast paced function that is a critical enabler of the firm
Direct exposure to senior management in Korea and APAC
Have exposure to BlackRock's breadth of investment, advisory and technology capabilities
Gain a broad perspective on Blackrock's business priorities and its leadership role in the industry
Skills / Experience
7+ years of relevant experience in the investment management industry or in financial services
Broad industry knowledge spanning across asset classes and client segments
Good understanding of Korean market including local regulations and familiarity with cross border dynamics
Solid understanding of operational infrastructure supporting onshore and offshore investment products
Self-starter with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge established thinking
Excellent communication skills and gravitas with the ability to build relationships across functions and external parties at all levels of management
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and own delivery against tight deadlines and constraints
Experienced in researching, crafting and articulating strategic plans
Experienced in interacting with regulators, clients and investors
Strong project management, organizational and problem solving skills
Attention to detail, while also able to grasp the bigger picture
Sound and unbiased judgment, professionalism and discretion
Effective operating in an open, interactive, collegial environment
Direct experience managing assets, structuring or selling investment products a significant plus
Business proficiency in English and Korean a must
Proficient in MS Office tools; familiarity with other finance industry tools a plus
Charted Financial Analyst or comparable qualification a plus
