Our client are the leading Africa focused PE firm. Based in London but invest across Africa, generalist sectors but primarily TMT, Consumer, Energy, Infra and FIG. Have an investment team of c.30-35 people.
This role is for an individual to come in and carve out their DCM financing function. The fund finance their transactions through a mixture of debt and equity, and whilst the equity obviously comes from their funds, the debt is raised and syndicated from other sources (mostly banks, potentially private funds etc). This individual would take full ownership of this workstream on all of their transactions.
This work is currently done by the wider investment team, but our client believes it can be more efficient, effective and advantageous if they carve it out into a specific function.
This is because this individual will be able to build more efficient and specialised relationships with their sources of debt, which can then be leveraged to source debt quicker and, over the long term, under more favourable terms.
This will allow them to optimise the function and thus improve their investment capabilities.
As such, you will sit parallel to the investments team and be compensated equally for you work.
You will also gain significant portfolio exposure, by assisting on / leading any financing projects for the fund's portfolio companies, which will typically be large scale and transformational (bond issuance, pre-IPO debt issuance, bolt-on acquisition financing).
This is a growing trend within PE and other firms have made similar hires.
New and large fund so plenty of fresh work to do on execution and investments. Will be an execution heavy role.

High levels of autonomy and independence.
Highly interesting work with significant opportunity for optimisation.
Strong mix of technical and relationship driven responsibilities.
Will be a very plug and play role for the successful candidate - similar responsibilities to current position which helps the transition but with the key added responsibility being that you actually have control over the decision making process.
Opportunity to work on both new investments and portfolio situations.
Massive headroom and responsibility from day 1, working directly with a partner. Intent for this to be a partner track position.
Super strong firm and team, almost everyone Bulge Bracket trained with Top-5 MBAs. Senior team experience includes Large-Cap Private Equity.
Growth hire for the team.
Ideally 4-8 years' experience in Lev Fin/ DCM / Debt advisory - if DCM needs to be somewhere where they still gained the necessary technical skills.
Experience likely gained in top investment bank, independent advisory house, or relevant geographical bank like ABSA, Standard Bank, Standard Chartered, Investec or Rand Merchant.
African markets exposure is strongly preferred.
Experience working in emerging markets, or at least conditions where you need to be more creative and bespoke in how you source debt, is essential.
Ability to think fundamentally about this practice and how to enhance it.
High maturity and the ability to think strategically about the growth of the position
