About the opportunity Reporting to the Portfolio Manager of Direct Equities, this role will contribute fundamental research to the Fund's direct Australian listed equity investment portfolios. The Direct team manage the Fund's internal fundamental domestic equity portfolios and work closely with the Fund's other internally managed asset classes including Private Equity, Systematic Equity, Property, Infrastructure and Credit. Direct equities investments are a core part of the Fund's strategy to maximise returns within the parameters established in the Fund's investment objectives and strategy.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Review and report on relevant investment exposures
Generate, source and contribute new investment ideas, processes and concepts to ensure the Fund remains at the forefront of investment capability in Australia
Develop strong relationships with brokers, advisers and fund managers to ensure First State Super (FSS) is able to source investment opportunities, engage with listed companies and continue to develop FSS Trustee Corporation's (FTC) investment capabilities
Contribute where appropriate to the due diligence and selection of investments in private equity and specialist equity related strategies
Serve as a role model in working closely and collegiately with both internal and external stakeholders and partners to deliver on the Fund's investment objectives and enhance the Fund's reputation as a valued client and partner
Support the Investment Team's broader role within First State Super, particularly as it relates to supporting member communications and related services.
About you To succeed in this role, you will have an inquisitive and naturally cynical approach to fundamental analysis, will be an innovative problem solver and results driven senior analyst able to display rational decision making ability with limited information under time pressure. You should be able to demonstrate:
Extensive experience in a research or analytical role in Finance, Funds Management, Broking or Investment Banking
A solid knowledge of the companies listed on the Australian equity market (ideally across multiple sectors)
Strong capability in generating differentiated investment ideas
Advanced research, analytical and performance evaluation techniques - across-both public and private sectors
Experience providing relevant recommendations relating to current portfolio exposures
An ability to effectively manage both internal and external stakeholder relationships
You will possess excellent time management skills and strong communications skills that will demonstrate a genuine care for members throughout the decision making process. You will hold formal qualifications in finance or a related discipline. Additional qualifications such as an advanced degree, professional charter or similar qualification in finance would be highly regarded.
