Data Scientist, Canadian Consumer Credit Risk, applies knowledge of advanced analytic algorithms/technologies (e.g. machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence) and data management to deliver, maintain, and continuously improve retail lending adjudication systems and Credit Risk analytics environments to enable smarter decisions, improved customer experience and drive productivity for our business.
This role would be attractive for data scientists who have experience with advanced analytics on large volumes and wide varieties of structured and unstructured data and are looking to gain an exposure to problems in the financial industry, focusing on credit strategies.
Roles and mandates:
Development of advanced analytical solutions to solve credit adjudication problems by applying most optimal statistical & machine learning techniques (such as predictive models, pattern recognition, clustering, deep learning, and artificial intelligence):
Liaising with credit risk strategy managers, leaders, and other stakeholders to identify requirements by capturing the distinct problems and the expected outcomes which impact critical business processes and/or decisions
Diagnosing and analyzing the requirements to formulate analytical solutions based on solid understanding of model performance features and their limitations
Developing the agreed analytical solution by applying the most efficient and robust algorithms.
Implementing experimental design approaches to validate robustness as well statistical test hypotheses to quantify model performance
Summarizing statistical findings, drawing conclusions, and presenting actionable business recommendations in a simple, clear way to drive action
S upport for the design, development, and implementation of fundamental Credit Risk analytics architecture:
Works with various data owners and lending SMEs to discover and select available data sources from internal sources and external vendors (e.g. lending system, payment system, external credit rating system, and alternative data) to fulfill the analytical needs
Assembles various types of source data (unstructured, semi-structured, and structured) into curated datasets with multiple levels of granularities (e.g., products, transactions, customers, demographics)
Maintains regular operations and continuously improves the data processing efficiency
Sets up change control and testing processes to ensure the quality and consistency of ongoing maintenance work
Documents metadata, data flow, systems, and processes in the data architecture
Typically, between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or other quantitative disciplines).
Experience with programming languages (e.g. SQL, SAS, Python, R) and machine learning /deep learning algorithms/packages (e.g. XGBoost, H2O, SparkML)
Deep proficiency in data management, statistical analysis, and predictive analytics
Experience with distributed computing language (e.g. Hive / Hadoop/ Spark) & cloud technologies (e.g. AWS Sagemaker, AzureML)
